Before this time, I had no reason To wonder, I would always come back to the same Old school And the same Old friends. But now as I realize that there will be No next time, I hesitate To let the tomorrows take the place Of yesterdays. Hesitations- They are here to replace the sure-footed path I must leave behind. Sharon Davidson When I come home late, No one waits up for me. They donyt leave the lights on. But the door,s never locked, And even though they arenit there TO say it, I am welcome home. But I am growing older, And outgrowing my Childhood home. lStrange, t0 outgrow your familyil One day I will walk out Into the night again, and leave My silent home with all its Silent love locked up inside. Li H .. .A'H'nu Y, Tribute to a Great Teacher Mr. Sherman, . . .This Book Is Yours If you have had a course in history under Mr. Harold Sherman you are, indeed fortunate I say this be- cause he ranks in my mind e after, lo, these many years e as one of the truly memorable teachers I ever had Under his tutelage and with his guidance and facility, historical figures became people, not just names, With his capacity to inject anecdotal material, history simply came alive. Mr. Sherman has the beautiful knack of combining the scholarly and the contemporary approach. While we learned a lot of solid history because of him, he always man- aged to keep the events of the past related to the present, and thus infinitely more meaningful. He made it fun to think. He Challenged, he amused, he questioned, he related, He was one Of the handful of unforgettable teachers I had in my years of formal education; in his Chosen field, he was the most in- spiring of all. Sad it is to think that students hence- forth will be denied the challenge of his classroom, but it is also happy to reflect upon how many young people he has inspired over these many years I speak for thousands when I say, liThanl-z you, sir. Stan Matlock Alumnus Stan Matlock returned to write this tribute to Mr. Sherman. Former yours saw Sherm caring for the tennis courts Congressman Sherer's office opened to Mr. Sherman and the dizzy eight. l l i : WITHROW ,70 WITHROW HIGH SCHOOL CINCINNATI, OHIO VOLUME LI INTRODUCTION ......... 7 ..... 2 ACTIVITIES ..... ............. 58 ATHLETICS ................ 104 PERSONALITIES . . . . . . . . .. 146 Faculty .................... 148 Seniors ........ Students, all huddled together, wrapped in blan- kets, often talked about other sports. The wrestling team and its vic- tories were major parts of conversations among the guys. Recalling practices of pin-downs caused red faces and heads thrown back in laughter. Cross country and swimming team members whispered nervously about meets. Knocked clown hurdles and scraped up knees were all a part of their practices. Nights of yelling and hoarseness belonged to the basketball games. Cheering for that special guy or the whole team proved the best time students experienced. Dedicaled practice in all sports resulted in tournament matches. l Kick-Offs Start First Afternoon Games Custofs hopes for the rccnvmy tthhe ball turned to anguish as 'Wnodward made the first down. Club Leaders Meet for Council of Presidents Dan Thee Fore! Dan teed offhis sophomore year as a transfer from Norwood High. Con- stantly 0n the green, Dan specialized in long drives and curvy puttst After golfing he relaxed at home working on various building projects. In a basement work- shop he connected a tape deck and an AM-FM radio to his stereo. With this combination of equipment, he collected several kinds of music, since no one style Classified his taste. Tiger hand music, though, did draw Dan to Friday night football games to watch the majorettes. It was another morning for Miss Moor- mann to ask homeroom Does Tom have 1 a meeting?! If it were not Senior Class, 1 it would be Council of Presidents. His homeroom hardly knew him. Tom rarely had to encounter this problem though. He was a recognizable figure about Withrow, however varied in expression. Every once in a while an ice cream machine would give birth to a cheese sandwich. Away from the lunchroom this enormous school posed many problems for the new students. Election of class officers replaced some of the boredom of homeroom Newly elected officers aided Greg Wil- liams in his role as Sophomore president. This was a new experience to underclassmen coming here for the first time. Sometimes, however, tenth graders became confused by the numbering of classrooms. Often a'sopho- more would be lost, wandering around aimlessly. Soon, howeveri tenth graders did master the routine here at Tiger Town.
