Approaches to English teaching were also varied by the arrival of Mrs. Bella Lowry, Miss Anne Mayer, and Mr. Phillip Wise. Under the new techniques, students engaged in panel and seminar discussions dealing with topics from racial strife to allegorical interpretations. Scholastic Creative Writing Awards were available to the writers ofexceptional essays, poems, or stories. Concluding the school year, some students complied anthologies of their original works.
