WHAT IS NEW IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE? Accent on Communication New in the foreign language department was the use of Audio-Lingual teaching. This method familiarized the pupils with the sound of the language before the text books were introduced in the second six-weekst period. Pupils learn sene tence patterns more readily if sound is the only sense involved in the learning procedure. 17

Miss Kemme reviewed phonetics as pupils correct their homework. Latin students enacted a parody 0n Julius Caesar's death. To lose an American accent and gain a Spanish onc, students listened to and imitated native speakers.

WERE THESE THE QUESTIONS HEARD tROUND THE WORLD? How? What? Why? Why cantt we have a policy of neutrality in Viet Nam? What can be done with an histori- cal fact or date? Why are those who refuse to recognize the past condemned to the future? How can students relate the historical facts they have learned to their own experiences? What could have been more stimulating in the History Department than trying to fmd the answers to these provoking questions? History points the way to the future.
