Structural and functional relationships among lan- guages were shown inductively by means of linguisticse In literature, though new novels, such as John Knowlesa A Separate Peace, were read, many teachers at the advice of Xavieras Father Savage concentrated more on composition The Edgecliff Academy further enlightened students by present- ing classroom classics. Techniques both old and new vied for the best results. In transactions big or small English was a requisite for good business. Homework emphasized that obtaining skill in English, as in any language, required assiduous practice.
