We'll make a feeble effort to sketch for you the myriad duties of Withrow's secretaries. The smooth management 'of our school is due to their constant efforts. The work varies from day to day but not the competence with which it is handled. Take, for instance, Mrs. Huppertz, Mr. Cad's indispensable right hand, who supervises the student assistants in the main office and keeps things on an even keel. DT scheduling is one of the duties of Mrs. Frooks in the office of Mr. McDevitt, while Mrs. Long- bottom, behind the front desk, must be ready for any unforeseen demand or emergency. Records of seniors, applications for colleges or jobs, transfers-in, transfers-outfyou name it and Mrs. Allen in 204 will handle it. The amount of money daily flowing in and out of the school is awe-inspiring but does not faze capable Miss Evans, the treasurer. The records and worries of eighth and ninth grades are handled by Mrs. Stagginborg in lO2, Miss Longland manages the details necessary to maintain our efficient library. Whether your schedule needs a change or whether you need an early excuse, that job will be done by the advisers. If it's college you are inter- ested in, see your counselor for recommenda- tions in your choice of subjects or guidance in selecting one that will be best suited to you. Yes, the counselors at Withrow specialize in YOUMyour interests and your abilities. The amount of paper work is staggering, but it never prevents the advisers from giving time to students. ENGLISH ENGLISH CAN BE AN INSPIRATION! To he, or not to be is a famous quotation which will ring in the ears of seniors for many, many years. The English Department of Withrow has endeavored to teach the student to appreciate the many famous classics as well as to try to encourage the pupil to express himself in writing. The time spent in analyzing and discussing the various English books seems especially rewarding to those of us who are presented with a literary award on Class Day. Four types of English courses are offered at Withrow: modified general, general, college prepara- tory, and advanced placement. Some visits to the library are planned by our teaching staff so that we might be- come better acquainted with some of the greats of litera- ture such as Irving, Longfellow, Whittier, Shakespeare.
