Eager Students Study Science And Its Processes Not long ago the United States sent up its first satellite, The Explorer. A new outlook started in education in the fields of science. Withrow is ready to take her place in -this world in which there is a need for a great emphasis on sciences. She has courses in both the natural and social phases. Withrow, clearly showing her foresight into the un- known future, has supplied faster moving courses for those who excel in science, besides the regular courses for those who are less ambitious. Her teachers continue their research so as to meet the demand. Biology, botany, and physiology still rank as high as chemistry and physics, nevertheless. The rocket age has put emphasis on the sciences of experimentation, but a full and understanding knowledge of the world around is necessary today. EXPERT INSTRUCTION INSURES INTEREST IN ANATOMY, IN PHYSIOLOGY CLASSES. 23

. as COMPLICATED PROBLEMS SEEM SIMPLE WHEN EXPLAINED BY FELLOW CLASSMATES. Mathematics - - For Those Who Want To Get Ahead k .. W xi 5 si W wi , ff' up xl. .X X nlN1i.Xsl s ' Q As the effect of science on the twentieth century makes itself more and more evident, so the lack of highly 'trained personnel comes into the view of the public. To do its part in combating this deficiency, Withrow began an accelerated course in mathematics two years ago. The object of this program is to finish the first year of college math while in the twelfth grade. The course has proved to be a highly successful enterprise. Whether an advanced course or business arithmetic, mathematics still offers a challenge. Teachers and coun- selors, alike, encourage qu-alified students to take higher mathe- matics. In this way we at Withrow may do our part to keep our nation supplied with technicians and scientists, so that it may main- tain its position as the greatest country the earth has ever known. N + 5 X STUDENTS ARE INTERESTED IN THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SOCIAL STUDIES AND TOPOGRAPHY. s . I 11 r s S: S Social Studies Explore Past Social studies dwell on man's relations with his environment. Historical as well as contemporary culture is a topic discussed in sociology, while stu- dents in economics are concerned with the problems in production, consumption, distribution and ex- change, or inflation and deflation. Since the students of today will be the leaders of tomorrow, it is necessary that they understand the ever-changing cycle of events of the modern world. The fate of nations, the fortunes of men, and the probing questions that only exploration can explain are all unveiled by history. The mysteries of life itself are exemplified through study of mankind. Our expert teachers strive to make the past live in the present, trying unfailingly to unscramble the facts from fiction. Controversy stimulates the imagina- tion of interested students. The old maps, charts, pictures, and relics of the past become part of our lives in a fascinating pattern. The year has passed and now it is our turn to make history. ROW 1 Arcilesi, Leonard J., Caveman, Monica, History Clubg Coe, Ruth.
