ii 77 Recognize Young Uncle Walter? On September 19, 1919, at East High School there were 59W teachers, the principal, two assistants, a dean of girls and the secretary. There were 1,480 pupils at the end of the first month. When the school opened, Pleas- ant Ridge and Madisonville High Schools were abandoned and the first graduating classes were made up of pupils who had formerly attended these two schools as well as many who had attended Woodward, Hughes and Walnut Hills. While it is a pleasure to look back on the 25 years that have passed and remember the many H116 boys and girls who have left Withrow, it is really a much keener delight to speculate on what the boys and girls of today will do in the next 25 years. We hope that they will find some way to solve the problems of the future. Withrow was opened at the close of what was thought to be the war to end wars. We hope that those who are on the scene 25 years from now will see a much better world than the one in which we are now living. WALTER PEOPLES 11
