Q azfbzzzibfz In dedicating this twenty-fifth annual to Dr. Edmund D. Lyon, we proudly pay tribute to his scholarly ideals and skillful leader- ship of Withrow during the earlier years of its growth. It was a bright September morning in 1919 when the doors of Withrow first swung open. In that first week, about twelve hundred eighty-eight pupils were enrolled. q Finishing touches were being given to the building and we lived through those first days to the accompaniment of the installation of the lockers. A trumpet was the signal for the passing of the classes. Crude tables were provided for the lunchroom. Yet, in a few days we felt quite at home. At first we were called the East High School, until the Board of Education honored us by giving us the name Withrow. Each year the enrollment of the school increased, reaching over four thousand till the war began to call the boys and girls to serve their country. We are now celebrating our twenty-fifth or silver anniversary year and it is a fitting time not only to remember our first quarter century with pride, but to resolve that in the years to come Withrow shall not falter in its duty to our community and to our country.
