...,f ITH several able stars from last year and ' R some flashy ex-juniors, Coach Doc Reuter put a track team in the field which took first place in the indoor meet at the St. . Xavier Field House. After two weeks rest, the team again swung into action against Woodward and outpointed that team 98-35. Russ Covington, a newcomer at Withrow, turned in good time in the 880 run and held his own in a triple tie with Corken of Withrow and Rainey of Woodward for first in the high jump. Cn April 25 Norwood invaded our stronghold and went home defeated 95-87. ln this meet Walter McGowan re- peated his surprising success as a hurdler, while Dick Zeumer and Dick Shreve did well in the century heat. The next week Withrow sent sixteen boys to the unigue Ohio Weslyan Relays where they took third place. Con- sidering the fact that the winners had thirty-five and thirty boys, our team made a very good showing. Score: Toledo Scott 45, Devilbiss High 42,13 Withrow 20. To the surprise of all, Withrow went down to defeat in a three cornered meet with Covington and Western Hills. However the fact that we were without the services of Corken, Carothers, and Alcorn, and that McGowan was injured in the 220 yard hurdles may partially explain this. At the meet at Cxford, sponsored by Miami College, Withrow defeated the entire field. The Tigers gained a score of 581 Q, Norwood being second with 562 3. Withrow's mile relay team broke the meet record but was disqualified on a technicality. May 24, in the city meet, Withrow far outdistanced any other team. They swamped their opponents in almost every event amassing a total of 881j points. Their nearest rival, Western Hills, had 85543 points. The team has yet to show its skill at the Cincinnati Night Relays to be held at the University of Cincinnati stadium.
