FIFTH ROW-Apparius, Swope, Lindsey, Pugh, Hollmeyer, Bischoff, Lee, Satler, Buckels, Siqnom, Brunskill. 0 lt's grand to go out to the stadium on a brisk, invigorating, Autumn afternoon and just yell and yell for the home team to make that winning touchdown, to send that ball through the goal posts for extra-point or to block that kick. lt's great to thrill to the martial music of a splendid band: to feel those shivers of excite- ment run up and down your spine. If our boys win, We go home feeling on top of the World and proceed to play the game all over again in our sleep. This is well and good. Being out in the open air this way is good for us although we undoubtedly lose much by not taking an active part in the game. Those who sit snugly bundled up in heavy clothes hardly realize the hardships endured by the boys they have come to Watch, not only the hardships of the present game but also those endured during the long training grind. Modern football is not the crude game it used to beg it is a combination of brain and brawn and requires the utmost bodily fitness and mental alertness for any appreciable success. A light team using clever plays may easily overcome an orthodox team of brawny gridders. We have never been blessed with a particularly heavy combination, yet by careful training and playing heads-up ball, Withrow has remained at or near the top of the league almost since the school was built.

AS Tl-IEY BATTLE THEIR Q Hard work, little praise goes with the manager's job. I. Rubin, P. Daniel. Marshall Casey Chandler, Captain, by playing an excellent game at end and half back, proved himself worthy of the trust placed in him. Albert Foley, honorary captain, unfortunately injured early in the season, was not afforded a chance to show his ability. George Bowden played a steady game at tackle, and with one year's experience should go places next season. Tom Lutz made a good showing at end, even though is was his first year of high school competition. lohn Grossnickle, hard driving tackle, always held when the play came his way. Charles Metzger, at guarterback, showed himself to be a hard fighter. Norman Kusel, at center, is promising material for next year. Bill Shober played a snappy game at quarterback. Earl Anderson, when turned loose at halfback, was hard to catch.
