A lTl-IRCVVWS music department is one ti,f of the strongest links in the chain of lit the school's activities, because it cre- ates a common bond among the stu- dents and arouses the interest of outsiders. The Qrchestra, Band, and Presentation Orchestra are justly proud of the musicians they have developed. ln the Grlee Clubs and Special Chorus, the members enjoy training in group singing. The memory of a thrilling football game would be in- complete it We could not picture the stirring band, urging the boys on to victory. Besides playing at the games and in pep assemblies, this organization, under Smittie's leadership, frequently enlivens auditorium sessions with its marching music. A high spot of the amateur musical season in Cincinnati is the Annual Concert, under the direction of Mr. Surdo. A chorus of four hundred voices and a combined orchestra of eighty pieces unite to make this program of classical and semi-classical music one of the finest high school performances in the country. Cne of the most popular events during the school year is the Minstrel Show. This spring four packed houses, a record crowd for a high school performance, rewarded Mr. Smith and members of the cast. By participating in these musical organizations many pupils have discovered in themselves unusual talent. ln a Post contest for young musicians, the following Withrow students won recognition: Wm. Kueffner, violinist, season symphony ticketsg Ell Dee Compton, tlutist, a silver medalg Margaret Compton, 'cellist, a bronze medalj Kenneth Nichols, bass, a silver medal, losephine Myers, violinist, a bronze medalg lohn Daniels, tenor, a gold medalp and Bill l-logue, tenor, a bronze medal. ,!:' .ii ' -f. iii - 1--.. 5' ' ' ' ..':.wi12'-. 1. gsaswsvraPawsrfzfzzf-FI?szPUrII:Wane5ohrrnhf:QS221nirnzdpazpzoznfepvyoozvpzppuzf-S , Z 5 Ackley Adams Ainsworth Angert Abenschon Bacon Bain Bauer Bellstedt Berry Bishop Brosene Camnitz Carpenter Chaeker Cook Cooper D'Andrea Day Dewire Dilling Dimetral Dreher Duermit Dunbar Durbin Earhart El lingwood Ervin Fantini Fehl Fluck Frieclrick Fry Fryman Fulkerth Funck Funck Green Green Grossman Groves Hamilton Hanover Harper Harris Hartley Hartley Hastie Hayes Hensgen Hicks Himes Hobbs Hofmann Horton Hummel Heflin lmhoh' Juvenile Kampe Kayser Keidel Kprcher Kirby Kizner SPECIAL CHORUS M.
