Une to he amazed at. questioned about. investigated. but ahove all. obeyed! How many of us knew that. when the 920 pulled into the Grand Central Depot on September 15, NIH. it hrought with it the future soeial seerelary to Mr. Lyon? A goodly numher of enthusiastic students journeyed down to welcome Purdie. All were extremely eurious to view the eanny Scotehman about whom they had heard so mueh. Their wait was not long. however, for Purdie was the lirst person oft' the train. As he alighted tearrying his own baggage. niueh to the chagrin of the portersl. he greeted them with a short hut. cheery Seoteh grin. Ah, the soot and dirt. he said. .l'is not like this i' honnie Seotland. I'd venture tae say that this is the meeting plaec for ai' the noise and grime i' the eityf' '0h, hut. we're going to have a new i6'1'1llilltl,l in Aprilf, replied a civic-minded Senior. It will he the tinest in the country, so when you return to your homeland. you will he ahle to go out from the new terminal. The skeptieal Purdie was wreathed in smiles when he learned of this, and a jovial and spritely COI1V0l'5i1-ii0ll about his honnie Seotland was Carried on all the way out to Withrow. Our personal eontaets with Purdie may he few and tar hetween, hut all of us have come into daily eontael with his age- old principle ---'FHRI FT! Some of us suspected it: others guessed itg many laughed at the idea. hut at last the seeret's out. Yesas-this is a thrift issue! Quite in line with our theme. we have chosen a personage who. in our minds. exemplifies the idea of lll1'ifi l,lll't,lll' Mae- Gregor. We sincerely hope you will like and enjoy reading ahout.
