Before the harvest things were going well, but after it we seemed to be playing below our potential. We made the semi-finals, but Penobscot Valley was too tough for us, they went on to be the state champs. We re only losing 3 seniors, so I'm very optimistic about next year. I think missing the spring training session in April hurt us a bit, but next year well be going and that will help us a lot. It is also a different kind of drama — the one- person ploy. On Broadway the lead role went to actress Julie Harris, but here of Wisdom High if wos our own Cleo Ouellette playing the port of the seclusive poet Emily Dickinson. With the stage adjusted to look like a Victorian living room, Mrs. Ouellette used the audience and invisible co- actors to conversationally bring Dick- inson to life. Dressed all in white, on eccentricity of Dickinson's, Mrs. Ouel- lette dramatically delivered dialogue and poetry. And it would appear from the applause that the audience Judged tenderly — of her. 48 A pair of activities on the part of our principal, Mr. Bouchard, brought a dimen- sion to the job that puts it into the realm of service above and beyond” the normal line of duty. The first was the result of a unique fundraiser by the sophomore class. Students were allowed to vote for which faculty or administration member they wanted to kiss the pig” by depositing mon- ey into cans representing each contestant. Mrs. Andy Labbe and Mr. Curtis Talbot won the right to show affection to the reluctant pig, but in the spirit of sportsmanship, close runner up Mr. Bouchard donned top hat and tuxedo for an amorous moment with the squealing piglet. Later in the year Mr. Bouchard again showed his gameness and flexibility by switching roles with a student, Kevin Ruest. Looking every bit the part Mr. Bouchard headed out in plaid shirt and cap for a day of tree harvesting. By exhibiting such a will- ing spirit and good humor, Mr. Bouchard surely went beyond the normal duties of his job and helped to set an upbeat tone for the school he leads. 49 participated in the 1968 Spelling Dee. The actual presentation of this award was on April 27, at an Honors Ban- quet in Madawaska. ¥ 53 _J The setting was almost from a fairy tale. Down a tree lined path, across a drawbridge spanning a crys- tal blue moat that flowed and sparkled, through the gates of a huge stone castle with lofty spires the couples came, stepping finally info the inner ballroom hung with heraldic banners and illuminated by light ren- dered jewelike as it passed through stained glass. But more dazzling than the surroundings were the dancers at this ball, seem- ingly enchanted by a flick- ering aura, an elusive blend of youth and adulthood. Shimmering gowns, stately tuxedos, spontaneous smiles, pulsing music hyp- notically bringing the danc- ers to their feet and into mo- tion. It was magic, truly a night to remember. 55 € M 1988 Commencement Exercise V v Wisdom High School was the site last Wednesday, June 8th, of the 1988 graduation program.-Sorne 800 parents, friends, and relatives were on hand to witness this event which saw 56 Seniors receive their diplomas, the Wisdom Jr. and Sr. High School Band — directed by Ms. Suzanne Olmsted — provided the music during the evening, playing such selections as: “Chantey for Flutes,” and “Rock Around the Clock.” The Commencement Addresses were given by: Cindy Albert, the salutatorian — Cindy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Albert; Wayne Momeault, the honor essayist I — Wayne is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reno Morneault; Kelly Cyr, the honor essayist II — Kelly is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cyr; and Gayle Bouchard, the valedictorian — Gayle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bouchard. 56 Seniors received their diplomas conferred by Mr. William O’Connel — Superintendent of Schools; assisted by Mrs. Judy Bougie ________I Guidance Counselor, Mr. Greg Ouellette — Senior Class Advisor, and Mr. Paul J. The young actors and actresses were really challenged by the contrasting moo- dy drama of The Storm and the fast paced comedy of Oh Baby. The Storm starred Ronnie Guerretfe, Tammy Pelletier, Roy Dumond, Kelly Thibeaulf and Kelly Paradis and Oh Baby featured Ronnie Guer- rette, Randy Ayotte, Tracy Michaud, Amy Cyr, and Jennifer Thibeault. Both showings were well received and the Wisdom Dra- ma Club expects to be seeing a lot more of these young peoples talents. OH BABY WISDOM HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA CLUB This was a busy, productive, growth filled year for Wisdom's Drama Club with four one act plays, a three act play, and an entry in the state one-act play contest held in Limestone March 11th. Membership in the club ran as high as 25 most of the year. The one act plays were presented as An Evening of Theater February 24th to a packed auditorium. The crowd got to see a wide range of styles, talents, and settings as each play unfolded. First Childhood with its juvenile view of the adult world and its dreamy bus ride through imagination; then When God Comes To Breakfasr an unconventional look at theology complete with a female deity, an exploding toaster, and an endearing couple named Harry and Beatrice. Requiem For A Small Town, a biting, cynical look at small town values struggling to survive in a changing world, offered some great ensemble acting by a large cast with unforgettable comic relief coming in the form of two old ladies named Millie and Mollie. This was the school's entry at Limestone and Sandy Slrois was selected to the all festival cast for her role as Millie. Lastly, Good-bye To The Clown dramatically showed how one child learned to accept the loss of a parent. When the imaginery clown said good-bye to Peggy the hushed crowd responded heartily to the close of an evenings top notch entertainment. But it was back to work for the players as casting and preparation for the Spring play The Groom Said No! began. The years final play, performed May 8fh, was a full three acts of comedy. Set in the late 1940's and accompanied by swing era tunes, it fold the story of Steve Cameron's return from the military and the ensuing battle between the girl he left behind and the Navy nurse he loves. The supporting cast of a domineering mother, a muddled but wise father, some feisty sisters and nosy neighbors filled out a standout cast that left the audience occasionally roaring with laughter. If was indeed a fitting climax to a season of fine Pioneer Drama. Front Row: J. J. Dugal, Gayle Bouchard, Kelly Cyr, Lori Bourgoin, Cindy Albert, Nicole Corriveau.
