er Treedcm Jam 33 Teaches American Histcry in Their 0wn Special Style fcr Wisdom Pioneers That Shcwbizz! There’s no better way to start the school year than with a real saucy, fast-moving lesson in American History. The textbook is music. The teachers are colorfully dressed singers with well developed senses of humor. The electricity is on and “Freedom Jam” is ready to entertain. The forty-five minute performance centered on the American bicentennial. The program began with Van Halen’s “Panama” followed by lively skits depicting well known personalities in American history. There was a message to the audience from one band member about the future of this great country. He stressed patriotism and personal in- volvement as the basis for our continued success in maintaining the rights and freedoms that we have today. After much more music, the program closed with the song “Proud To Be An American” which left everyone in a highly charged spirit of patriotism and excitement. Congratulations Seniors! from LUCIEN BOUCHARD POTATO FARM 3 Career Reading Day CAREER READING DAY What To Do!? What's in store for the future is always on the minds of Wisdom students. The idea of having to choose a career often leaves them in an anxious state. In an attempt to relieve some of the confusion, Mrs. May Albert, Wisdom Librarian, presented an impressive display of a wide variety of books and pamphlets dealing with the world of work. Many students spent a good deal of time perusing through the available information in search of their unique career possibilities. A big THANK YOU!! goes out to Mrs. Albert for her creativitiy and energy given to the perparafion of this very successful CAREER READING DAY. 5 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS - Bock, Left to Right: Gregory Chomberlond, Paul Bouchard. Paul Morin, Joy Edgecomb, Laura Plourde. Brenda Mathieu, Kevin Lovoie, Rebecca Guerretfe, Shelly Chomberlond, Mrs. Louise Cyr (advisor), Janice Thlbeault, Cellna Ouellette and Dean Daigle. A candle is but a simple thing: It starts with just a bit of string Yet dripped and dipped with patient hand. It gathers wax upon the strand Until, complete and snowy white. It gives at last a lovely light. Life seems so like that bit of string: Each deed we do a simple thing. Yet, day by day, if on life's strand. We work with patient heart and hand. It gathers joy, makes dark days bright And gives at last a lovely light. MSAD 33 Administration Garfield King Superintendent No matter where you look In MSAD 33, you will find very few who are as dedicated to the educational ex- perience of all students as are the people on these two pages. Mr. King constantly demonstrates perseverance and strength of character in the performance of the duties of his office. While his stance may not always be a popular one, you can be sure that his energies are always directed towards the improvement of MSAD 33 as a whole. For all your efforts, Mr. King, we send our sincerest thanks. It has often been said that behind every successful man there is a strong woman (or something to that effect). Well, behind Mr. King are three very important women. Of course, there is Mrs. King who can man the helm with the best of them, but also there are Mrs. Pat Bourgoin and Mrs. Gloria Gervais without whom many tasks would seem insur- mountable. These two sweethearts are constantly friendly and always ready and willing to help. We are very for- tunate to have such qualified and amiable professionals working for use in the main office. To you also, Mrs. Bourgoin and Mrs. Gervais, our thanks. Mrs. Gloria Gervais District Bookkeeper 32 Mrs. Patricia Bourgoin Secretary to the Superintendent Mrs. Irma Sirois Secretarial Aide Wisdom High School and Junior High Principal Paul Bouchard Certainly more visible to the students and teachers than the main office personnel are those individuals working within the office of the school building itself. Mr. Paul Bouchard's complete dedication to his job ensures that his duties os Principal are always performed to the very best of his abilities. His over fen years of experience as Principal of Wisdom High School have given us a firm but compassionate leader whose strength of character can only be an asset to all who work at Wisdom and for MSAD 33. Of course, like any one man, Mr. Bouchard cannot do it all by himself. We must all strive constantly toward the common goal of a smooth-running, friendly, safe and just en- vironment at Wisdom. Two ladies who are instrumental in the achievement of this desirable goal are Mrs. Claudia Morin and Mrs. Irma Sirois. While almost constantly under the pressures of being overworked, they still manage to maintain a friendly smile and are always ready to lend a helping hand when they are needed. This continued pleasant attitude may come from the fact that Mrs. Morin doesn't mind hearing a good joke and Mrs. Sirois doesn't mind telling one. This combination leads to laughter which is, after all, the very best of medicines. Mr. Bouchard, Mrs. Morin and Mrs. Sirois. we cannot thank you enough. Mrs. Claudia Morin Secretary to the Principal 33 Wisdom’s Maintenance Staff Who fixed that door knob, broken chair or desk, stubborn candy machine, broken window, leaky roof? Who shoveled that snow, washed those windows, swept those floors? Who got that ladder for you, found you that hammer, wired that thing or plumbed the other thing? Who cut that grass, painted that building, adjusted your heaters, wiped up that spill, helps Lisa Tardif on and off the bus? Who smiles when you pass them and returns that “good morning?” Who carries the heavy stuff for the cooks — the trash to the dump. Who drives the students home safely? Our janitors, that’s who! We’ve only touched on a fraction of their total contribu- tion to our school. Guys, we just couldn’t do it without you. A million thank you’s!! From Left to Right: Mr. Roger Gervais, Mr. Fernand Beaulieu, Mr. Rosaire Beaulieu, Mr. Roger Corriveau, and Mr. Bob Gervais. 34 Wisdom’s Food Preparation Staff We cannot overlook the Important connection between eating and learning. Proper nutrition gives us the energy we need to do our best in school. These hard working lovies see to it that Wisdom's food is properly cooked, nutritious and attractively served. Under the gentle yet firm guidance of the kitchen super- visor. Mrs. Joan Cyr, kitchen and cafeteria duties run smoothly and efficiently. Thank you, ladies, for caring. From Left to Right: Mrs. Jeanne Chasse, Mrs. Doris Chamberland, Mrs. Raymonde Ouellette, Mrs. Lucille Michaud, Mrs. Joan Cyr, and Mrs. Pat Morin. 35 WiSMM FACULTY MR. Have you ever felt the urge to just get out there and with all of your might, with every fiber in your body be somebody you're not? Well, thirty-eight Wisdom boys got down on March 20, 1985 and did just that. A capacity audience was entertained with music from Kiss, ZZ Top, Iron Maiden, Helix, Motley Crue, Don Jovi, Wasp, and David Lee Roth to mention only a few, while Wisdom boys mimed to the beat of the words and the music on entirely home-made instruments and props. Masters of ceremony were: Steve Collin and Peter Daigle. Judges for the contests were: John Dubois, Gary Michaud, Elaine Michaud, Gary Morin, Charles Ouellette, Lisa Dosse and Stella Sirois, all former students of Wisdom High School. VOICES OF THE PAST You hove gone. Disappeared from my life. Without saying a word. Leaving me with memories of the past. All the things we've shared: Our ''private” talks. The ''mending of our hearts, Those ’ crying eyes. But most of all. Voicing our ''fears together. I will always remember you my friend. Because your voice will always be in my mind, forever, as A Voice of the Past. Paula Morin Second Place ' Voices of the Past The voices of the past Were so different than today Especially in the words That people used to say. At one time pot was a vessel For cooking things in And hooked was what Grandma's rugs would have been Fuzz was a substance Real fluffy like lint And bread came from the bakery Not from the mint. Words are now changing They're so different from before With so many new meanings Leaving a wide and open door. Susan Mathieu Fourth Place MY FRIEND OF THE PAST Many years ago, I knew the sweetest old man. He was my best friend, The very best you can have. Voices of the Past I could talk to him. For he listened and he cared. He gave me advice And said he'd always be there. But then one sad day, If was his time to part. And he spoke these words That I have held in my heart. Be just who you are Always listen to your heart Learn to like yourself For inner peace is an art.” That was years ago But I still miss that old man. Sometimes I need help To figure out who I am. And when my pride hurts. And feels as though it's been slashed. It makes me so glad To hear that voice of my past. I've traveled with men of adventure and daring As they've sailed the seas and soared the skies I've cried with mothers in endless searching As they've looked into their young ones' hungry eyes I've trusted in leaders of wisdom and power As they've lead us through wars and prosperity I've detested the shades of black and white color It's robbed the people of their dignify On all these things this country was shaped The right to life, happiness, and liberty From all the worlds, nations they have escaped To come here to the land of opportunity. One was an exchange student program and the other was a trip to Quebec. The exchange student program took place during the February vacation. Two students from each grade (7-11) lived with students from Pohegenanook. They attended school with those students. In April, the Quebec students stayed with our students. The trip to Quebec took place in April. Twenty-eight students toured Quebec for four days and three nights. The French Club has con- ducted many fund raising activities. They are: a coat check, a bottle drive, a bake sale and a rock-a-thon. All these activities have been successful. We would like to thank everyone for supporting us. There are some students who attend Wisdom High who all of a sudden aren't in school much anymore or at least it seems that way to students who regularly attend Wisdom. Some students are never in classes at Wisdom. No. This is not a mad move to drop out of school. Students operating in such unconventional ways are very busy attending class somewhere else. These students are participating in the Vocational Education Program. Dennis Dosse. Danny Dumond. Karl Lavoie, Steve Lavoie. Michael Levesque and Paul Michaud tackled Auto Mechanics lessons in Fort Kent. Pioneer Diesel Mechanics such as Tommy Blanchette, Peter Collins, and Dale Roy were also in Fort Kent. Madawaska High Welding classes were at- tended by Glenn Ouellette while Craig Thibodeau sharpened his skills in the Machine Shop in Grand Isle. And let's not forget all the dedicated Health Occupations students working hard at the hospital in Fort Kent. They were: Patty Beaulieu, Jeanette Butler. Cherie St. Pierre, and Brenda Thibeault. Gail Bosse, Kim Bouchard, Michelle Corriveau, Doug Guerrette and Sherry Theriault were busily scaling the Marketing and Distribution career ladder. Did anyone discover where Sandy Chamberland, Debbrah Beaulieu and Michelle Hebert had disappeared to during the entire year? They were attending classes at the University of Maine at Fort Kent of course. So you see, we are all accounted for at Wisdom. Watch me ploy so you con see how I om trying to work our my problems. When you tell me to do something, please tell me why I should do it. Don’t transfer your fears to me. I hove enough of my own to cope with ond I don't need more. Help me not to act when I om angry. But don't moke me so afraid of showing anger that I lose the capacity to feel strongly about anything. v Let me learn to bear pain, to wont things but to be strong enough to postpone gratification of certain feelings I om not yet ready to experience. Give me o little corner in the house that is oil mine ond nobody else's. I need moments of peace ond quiet that cannot be invaded by anyone. Give me my shore of consideration ond attention. I must know every day, even if for just o few minutes, that I am rhe only one you ore thinking about ond loving. Let me osk ony questions that pops into my head. If you don't know the answer, soy so. When the rood you're trudging seems oil up hill. When the funds ore low, ond thexlebts ore high. And you wont to smile, but you hove to sigh. When core is pressing you down o bit. Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists ond turns. As everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a failure turn about. When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow. You may succeed with another blow. Success is failure turned inside out. The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, and you never can tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems so far. So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit. It's when things seem worse. That you must not quit. The theme was WE ARE THE WORLD. With the world's focus on Ethiopia's starvation situation it was no wonder that the 1985 Seniors wished to commemorate their graduation to this country's struggle for survival. Departmental awards were received by Sandra Chamberland (Eng), Gregory Chamberland (Math), Paul M. Morin (Sci), Laura Plourde (Soc.
