World War II Took a heavy Toll of boTh sTUdenTs and foculTy. Over 1000 sTudenTs 0nd groduaTes enTered The armed forces. EighT members of The- focuITy Took leaves of absence To engage in The war efforT. The college, how- ever, mainTained iTs sTondords and The usual ocTiviTies wiTh some curToil- menTs. WiTh The close of The war many veTerans reTurned To college, and The enrollmenT rose To The high of 831 in The fall of 1948. To promoTe The fuTure expansion of The college There was organized in 1947 The River Falls STaTe Teachers College FoundoTion, wiTh Edward Rock V of Hudson as presidenT of The board of direcTors. ConTribuTions were made To The fund 0T once, and on inTensive drive was carried on during The IasT of 1948 and The early porT of 1949. $250,000 is The goal, and The fund is well on The way To ThoT goal. The FoundoTion, says PresidenT Kleinpell, will assure The fuTure progress of The college, for H will provide ThoT exTra spark so necessary To our TuTure building requiremenTs.
