LieuTenanT ALVIN ANDERSON Alvin Bud Anderson came To River Falls Trom The Baldwin High School and aTTended The college during The years I939-I94I. While here he was inTeresTed in inTramural aThleTics and was one oT The mainsTays oT The Falcon Tennis Team. He was class presidenT, member oT The STudenT Sen- aTe, and R Club, and was acTive on various commiTTees. In May, 1942, he enlisTed in The Reserve Signal Corps and served in The Hawaiian Islands Trom May, I942, unTil Feb- ruary, I943. He sailed To New Guinea in May, I944, and Tool: parT in The invasions oT boTh LeyTe and Luzon. On January 29, l945, he was killed in a plane crash on LeyTe. LT. Anderson's company, The 989Th Signal Company, re- ceived The Bronze STar Tor iTs parTicipaTion in The LeyTe and Luzon cam paigns LieuTenanT ROBERT E. BOERNKE RoberT E. Boernlce enlisTed in The Army Air Forces SepTern- ber 25, I942. He classiTied as PiloT in May, l943, and graduaTed as Second LieuTenanT, FighTer PiloT, in March, I944. ATTer TurTher oTTicers Training he Tlew To india AugusT 2, I944. In The Tall oT ThaT year he wenT over The Hump inTo China. IT was while leading a squadron on an imporTanT mission over China ThaT he was killed aT Hong Kong, December 23, I944. He aTTended River Falls in T938-IQ39. LieuTenanT BU RTON BOETTCHER BurTon BoeTTcher oT The army was CapTain BoeTTcher oT The River Falls l94l TooTball squad, sTarring in aThleTics here as well as in high school aT Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire Teachers College, which he aTTended during his Treshman year. He received his B.S. degree Trom River Falls Teach- ers College in I942, enTering The army in AugusT OT ThaT year. He became an inTanTry oTiicer aTTer Training in The OTTicers Training School aT ForT Benning, Georgia, and was senT Tor overseas duTy in The SouTh PaciTic in January, I944. I+ was in Arawe, New BriTain, ThaT he meT his deaTh, April 6, I944, as a resulT oT an accidenTal gunshoT wound. He is survived by his parenTs, Mr. and Mrs. Harry BoeTTcher oT Chippewa Falls, and Two broThers, who were also in The service: LT. Orris C. BoeTTcher, serving in The SouTh F'aciTic. and TfSgT. Vernon BoeTTcher in England.
