Among his exTra-curricular acTiviTies were baskeT- ball, which he played during his ehTire Tour years aT college, and Tennis. He enlisTed in The Army in AugusT, I942, and was senT To Greenland. While being Transporlred To This area he losT his liTe in The sinking of The TransporT DorchesTer by a German submarine when wiThin TiTTy miles oT iTs desTi- naTion, February 3. I943. In I942 STanley Palm married RuTh Davidson. A broTher, CapTain lrvine L. Palm, was also in The service. LleuTenanT ELM ER PARNELL Elmer Parnell received his B.E. degree Trom River Falls in l932 in rnaThemaTics and science. He also aTTended Mar- queTTe UniversiTy and received his MasTer's degree in I942. Previous To This he had been a member oT The TaculTy oT The SomerseT High School Tor Ten years. Teaching maThemaTics and science. He was Their TirsT coach oT baskeTball and also coached boxing and oTher sporTs. He enTered The service in April, I944. He received an assignmenT To The Air Trans- porT Command and compleTed his Training aT Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was awaiTing his assignmenT To overseas service when The news came To his moTher ThaT he had died guieTly in his sleep aT Camp Luna, Las Vegas. November l7, IQ44.

He had been aclrive in baske-'rball and debafe and served on many commiiiees while in college. He enfered lhe service July l5, I942, in 'Phe Army Air Forces and was seni overseas lo rhe New Guinea area. Here he was a radio gunner on a B-25 bomber. He was shoi' down Seplember 3, I943, over Wewak Bay afier a ferrific enemy alrrack. All five members of The crew were missing. He was awarded The Silver Srar, Presidenlrial Unif Cirarion and 'rhe Purple Hearr. Lieulenani' STANLEY L. MORLEY Slanley L. Morley majored in science and malhernafics during his four years af River Falls, receiving his degree, Bachelor of Science, in l94O. One of his exfra-curricular aclivilies was phoiography, and he was pholographer for Jrhe 1940 Mele+ean. He enlrered 'rhe service in February. I942, in Jrhe Army Air Forces and was sen+ io The European 'iheaier of opera'l'ion. He was on a bombing mission over Germany when he was shoi down over Duren, November 29. I944. He had received fhe Air Medal and was awarded Jrhe Purple Hearr. Lieurenanl Morley's parenls are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Morley of New Auburn. Lieufenanf ROBERT L. MRAZ Roberl' L. Mraz enlisled in Jfhe Army Air Forces in January, I94-2, while in his sophomore year ai River Falls. He was commissioned a second lieulenanl' in Seplember and was senl To rhe Alaskan area af l'he end of 'rhe year. lf was while on parrol dury in fhe Aleulian Islands +ha+ his plane was caughi in a propeller wash, and he was killed January 21, I943. Lieurenanr Mraz was an oulsianding alhleie, receiv- ing rhe American Legion award as 'rhe oulsianding a'rhle're of his class upon his graduarion from 'rhe Algoma High School, where he played foo+ball, baskerball, and baseball. He confinued his foofball career ai River Falls, becoming a varsiiy leH'erman. During his vacalions he played baseball on 'rhe Algoma cil'y leam. His parenls are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mraz of Algoma. A sis'l'er, Lieuienanl Elaine Mraz, was an army nurse a+ O'Reilly General Hospiral, Springfield. Missouri.

Lieu+enan+ JOHN HENRY PERSON John Henry Person was a navigafor on a bomber operafing in fhe African fheafer. He has been missing ever since fwo planes failed fo refurn from a mission early in 1943. He enlisfed in 1940. in 'rhe Army Air Forces, following 'rwo years af River Falls, and was senf fo fhe Mediferranean fheafre. His deafh apparenfly occurred April 18, 1943, in Sicily. He married Jane Erickson in 1942, and had a son whom he had never seen. He received fhe Air Medal wifh four oak leaf clusfers and fhe Purple Hearf. TfSg+. WARD RANDLES Ward Randles came fo fhe college from Alma Cenfer and while here was a Falcon baskefball sfar. He received his degree in 1939. He enlisfed in 'rhe Army Air Forces in 1942 and served in 'rhe Europe-Africa-Middle Easf area. He flew in fhe famous raid over fhe Ploesfi oil fields in Rumania in Augusf, 1943, as Flighf Engineer on a B-24 bomber. He had been missing since December 22, 1943, when on a flighf over Holland, buf was nof officially declared dead unfil Sepfember. 1945. He received fhe Air Medal wifh fwo oak leaf clusfers. fhe Disfinguished Flying Cross and 'rhe Purple Hearf. He married Beafrice Cornell in 1943. His parenfs are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Randles of Alma Cenfer. Pfc. JOHN W. ROCKWELL John W. Rockwell enlisfed in July, 1943. He was senf fo fhe European fheafre, where he served wifh a demolifion corps. He mef his deafh near Le Havre, France, Ocfober 19, 1944. He was awarded posfhumously fhe Purple Hearf and fhe Soldiers' Cerfificafe of Merif for performing ex- cepfionally meriforious service in daily exposing himself during 'rhe period before his deafh, Sepfember 5 'ro Ocfober 19, 1944, on his hazardous mission, parf of if under fire. Privafe Rockwell is survived by his wife, '1'wo children, and his mofher, Mrs. Winnona Rockwell. His brofher, Malcolm, also losf his life in fhe service.
