Table of Contents Staff...............................3 Athletics...........................11 Organizations.......................23 Students............................31 Seniors.............................37 DEDICATION Hilda Richey John Shipman The members of the Class of 1987 wish to honor two persons, Ms. Hilda Richey and Mr. John Shipman. Ms. Richey has been a dedicated English teacher for 17 years. Her faith in students is encouraging them to develop their skills. Since 1974, Mr. Shipman has been our Superintendent. He continues making improvements and changes at our school especially in education and social life. Therefore, we want to dedicate the 1987 Yearbook to both Ms. Hilda Richey and Mr. John Shipman. -2- WSD REMEMBERS STAFF Dear Senior , Our goal a a school have been to help prepare you for this graduation, and thence to achieve your aspirations. Uc salute you in recognition of this milestone, and look forward to hearing of your successes to come. As you already know, this world In which we all live. Is not perfect. Be prepared for a few ralnshowors before you find your rainbow. There can be one rainbow or many, but It will be up to you to achieve them as your own. Never give up your pursuit. Superintendent ol for the Deaf -4- Dsgny Bergstrom Education Director Tom Hsrblson Acadomic Supervisor Gary Blaokmar Vocational Coordinator Alex Slappey MHHI Supervisor Wo wish for each of you a rich and successful life. Always be the best person you can be and have confidence in your skills, knowledge and abilities. Don't be afraid to try! We learn from all experiences • good and bad. Our world is rapidly changing and we must dare to kocp up. Congratulations on accomplishing your first step into the future. Congratulations! I bet you are looking forward to Commencement Day and you are happy that the school year is over. But it is not actually over. It is the beginning of a long journey through life. You nre really going to start a new life. Everyday you will learn something new. Some of you will go to college. Some will go to a technical vocntional school. Some will go and find a job. I ask you all to remember and use whnt all of the WSD stafT members have taught to help you lead a good life. Best wishes and good luck! With June 6th rapidly approaching your time at WSD is coming to a close. All of the teachers and stafT who have had the opportunity to tench and work with you over the past few years will miss you. We hope we have had some influence in developing the attitudes and skills that will benefit you the rest of your life. Life is full of learning opportunities so take this knowledge and apply it to a happy and fulfilling future. Once again Spring is here. It is now o time you have long awaited. The time when, at last, you nre free to stand on your own feet. Through all the years you have had many experiences. You have acquired valuable information. It is now time to apply those many lessons you have learned in your years of childhood and adolescence. In the end, it is not only how much you have learned and how well you have learned, but it is also how well you apply those lessons you have learned. It does not help to know what to do and how to do it if you do not do it. A hammer that is not used will not help you drive nails. If you correctly npply the lessons you learn you will be successful in life. Best Wishes to the Class of 1987 -5- I bcliev the most important things in life are family, friends, physicnl and spiritual health, and belief in your own abilities. If you strive to be the best you can be in all these areas, you will be a success and will find satisfaction with life. Best wishes to all of you. Parents, Families and Friends. Looking back, we have received much love and help from all of you. When we were babies, you gave us affection. II was like the beginners in mountain climbing being given instructions before they started on their journey to a mountain peak. Your love and help sent us climbing upward When we got hurt along the way, you cared for us and we got through to the first ledge. Then we were ready to attend school and loam about the world It was like learning how to climb the mountain The new climbers were given gear such as ropes, special shoes, saftcy helmets, pitona and bolt . In school we had many people who cared about us and taught us the basic skills Some of us were mischievous, some aggressive, and some quiet. You taught us to grow • to want to learn and to want to work. It was like the climbers who wanted to reach the second ledge and who had to learn how to use the climbing gear With your love, guidance, teaching, and understanding, you helped us reach the second ledge. In Junior 1 tigh School our goal was to prepare for 1 hgh School, tike the climbers whose aim was to get to the third ledge. Although we did it with less of your help because we had acquired the basic knowledges and skills, there was more we had to learn on the way to the third ledge It was a hard dimb. but we made it. In High School, as wilh the next ledge. It was more difficult and challenging because the rocks were worn and hard to grasp. The shoes were not enough, and the dtmbers kept slipping Fortunately they had bclayers with ropes to keep them from falling. You, like the belayers. guided us along. The climbers had to think and use pitons and bolts to dimb toward the next ledge. Like them, you made us more responsible for studying and learning on our own and using our knowledges and skills. You made us learn from our mistakes. Some learned more quickly than others not to make the same mistakes again Just as the climbers who have reached the fourth ledge, we have now completed our work in High School, but we are not finished yet. We still have a long way to go - the dimbers to the peak, and we to our individual goals. Some have plans for college, some for technical school, and some for employment We. the Class of 1987, would like to lhank everyone of vou for your love, care, and patience. We will never forget WSD We bid you farewell as we continue on our journey, ready to face new challenges and dimb. Thank you Chief Ziamik. Father Zerkel, Mr. Shipman, Ms. Bergstrom, staff, parents, families, and friends. Welcome to our Senior Class of 1987 graduation. As we look at each other, we can see sparkling, moist tears in our eyes. We know that we have made it grom kindergarten to high school. Today, we feel many emotions: happiness, sadness, enthusiasm, and fear. We arc glad that we have completed our years of education here, but at the same time, we are very sad to leave here. Now we look forward to our new goals: college, technical school, or a job. Our thanks to all of you who have had lots of patience with us and haw given us so much love and care. Thank you, again and welcome. -38- Carol Lynn Banaszak Milwaukee 1984 Deneen Arlene Bottensek Delavan 1971 Jeffrey William Bronk Big Bend 1982 -39- Melissa Elaine Brohelden Kenosha 1983 40- Jennifer Jeane Furlano Milwaukee 1975 Kevin Robert Leannah Sheboygan 1979 Juan Andrew Limones Delavan 1974 David Lee Norship Walworth 1980 Eric Heinz Mattmann New Glams 1980 -42- Barbara Dawn Padon Beloit 1974 Timothy Michael Rommelfanger Delavan 1979 Randall Alan Shank Sussex 1982 Richard Lomard Stiff WhiteUsh Bay 1982 -43- Sean Patrick Tracy Janesville 1984 -44- Milton Lee Sharon Sucharskl CLASS OFFICERS PRESIDENT............................
