And the Badger Preps did start the year with a bang. Traveling to Edger- ton for the season's opener, the squad turned back the Crimson Tide 19-0. The following week Metzen's Marauders shipped the Stoughton Vikings, 31-0. Middleton put up a good fight, but the Preps ground out two touchdowns for a 12-0 white- wash, It was the hard rocks third straight shutout. The Fort Atkinson offense proved too much for the Preps, and Fort was the victor 14-O. The score of the Monona Grove game Q21-13j is not indicative play. The Preps dominated the game but lost on fluke plays by the opposition. The team split their last two games, beating Monroe 21-7 and losing to Jefferson 12-0. The players elected John Marquart and Ted Groves co-captains. Ted also was the team's Most Valuable Player. Named to the All-Badger Conference teams were: Center Craig Smith, Guard Ted Groves, Tackle Tad Dunn, End Tom Link, Linebacker Greg Isaksen, and Quarterback Dick Smith. Each year the team has shown progressg and this year's team placed ninth in the state meet. The Preps were paced by Captain Joe Swanson with a pair of first places and sophomore Fritz Kaeser with three seconds and a third in dual meet competition. Fritz was lost to the team for the state meet because of a kidney infection. The squad's most improved runner was Rob Whitford, the captain-elect. Eight foot strider Fritz Kae- ser showed himself to be one of the most promising runners in the area. Major letters were awarded to Kaeser and Swanson, J-V awards went to Don Zillman, Rob Whitford, Doug Clark, Pete Wadsack. The Rundell rink, skipped by Jim, consisted of Lee Woldenberg, Bruce Benedict, and Bob Big Yo Yolton. The other rink was skipped by Tom Resan. Other members of Resan's rink were Mike Schra m, Doug Strong, and Charles Buss. The Rundell rink won the second event in the Madison Inter-High School Bonspiel. They also tied for first place in the Madison High School Curling League with a record of seven wins and two losses. Both rinks participated in the bonspiels at Wausau, Poynette, and Madison. 35 ROW 1 S, Plater, P. Heebink, D, Center, P, Wolfe. J. The next week the team was set back by a last quarter rally of Monona Grove, Again the following week the fieldhouse was the scene of a slaughter, Monroe, ranked number five in the state and the eventual Badger Confer ence Champion, was the victim of the Preps, Pete Heebink played, in the words of Coach Metzen, One of the best defensive ga mes I have ever seen, in holding the area's leading scorer, Dave Grahms, to 5 points, The score was 55-47, in favor of Wisconsin High. No reward is offered for they are gone forever. Horace Mann At Wisconsin High, time has quickly passed as we studied, worked, planned, and had fun every day of our high school years. Now we pause to look back on our years at Wisconsin High before we enter a new stage in our lives. We remember the fun and work that went into our Junior Prom, our class projects, our studies, and our extracurricular activities. In years to come, we will look back fondly on our experiences at Wisconsin High and remember the good times we had. For these carefree, meaningful years we will always be indebted to you, Wisconsin High. The Class of 1959 720112 195 ff I MIT H QUEEN SUE 4 A Kino DICK s HEEB1NK 76QdCAff2y Az' 169 cgfars Junior Prom 1958, the climax of many hours of planning, working, and arranging, had at last arrived. An hour before they were scheduled to leave for the coke-tail party at King Dick's house, many juniors dragged themselves home after performing the almost impossible task, transforming the WHS gym into heaven to carry out the theme Reaching for the Stars. Woven across the ceiling were strips of aqua and white crepe paper. In one corner was a swing, which appeared to be floating on fluffy white clouds, built especially for the king and queen. After a few hours spent in this celestial paradise, everyone moved on to a party at Queen Sue's house and then, of course, to the slumber parties. None of us will forget that night we spent Reaching for the Stars. ,zegggjfffff wx, is-J Q X f y lg,-p ,, EM, mxxd I5 E 1 x 1 ' 2- H- E E aff WM -4- .gr I , ' nj r', 1-QQ JIS -L Y, . --2 . ,L JMB I4 Zzfe czJfa.4Zzo1zaZ!e. .front- -ylaf' fdfzroiifl Jiakea 217.4 Xbarhh 5194? 5 iire. 72a:7zoQ Z J71 740795.
