F3 U To the onlooker, the visitor and the student, Winthrop has a ditterent connotation and a ditterent meaning for each, yet, from each perspective, one common element is evident. The campus, buildings, academic program, com- munity liie and the student are all characterized by change. The student has seen the image presented to the on- lookerpshe has experienced all that the visitor's image of Winthrop includes. Only a student can know what Winthrop really is and means, for a student is Winthrop. The dormitory in which she lives is the world with which she is most intimately associated, and it is a world some- what set apart, especially at night. The room she shares with another student may, at times, be neat and clean and taste- fully furnished, or, at other times, it may be a jumbled scram- bled state of confusion. But whatever it is, it is the one place that really belongs to her-her one claim to privacy and property. Contrary to outside appearances, for many stu- dents the day is Tar from being ended when dorm closing time sounds on the bell system. Curlers, bath water lhot it possiblel, bridge parties, jam sessions, term papers, books, and No-Doz are all a part ol dorm life from midnight to dawn, and a single night may include all ot them. Whether it's during exams or the week of mid-terms, a student's room is her one claim to privacy. WINTHRQP C0 CE
