As the beautiful strains of The Battle Hymn of the Republicv died into the cold afternoon, the feeling of expect- ancy became more intense. One by one the thir- teen seniors and four juniors were tapped and escorted to the stage where they received their cards, pins, roses, and candles. Snowmen sat on each side of the stage guarding the blue and white crepe paper streamers which s u r r o u n d e d Harry Greenls orchestra. The twenty-foot Christ- mas tree lent a soft glow to the dance floor as Kay Brookover, last year's queen, crowned Janyce Conn and Dwight Sulli- van. The king and queen were chosen by the members of the band. As the last strains of music drifted through the frosty winter night, the couples were hesitant to leave. Gay colors of red, green, yellow, and black carried out the Japanese motif while hand-drawn Japanese murals cov- ered the Walls. Everyone began to wonder- Who will be our king and queen? Linda Ketcham and Richard Myers were soon circling the floor during the coronation dance. As the last strains of music by Harry Green's orchestra drifted through the starry night, we started for home, each girl clutching chopsticks, crepe paper, and a dance program in her hand. 72 i Carol and Max SENIOR FORMAL On the evening of December second, nineteen hundred and sixty, students from Wintersville High School were eagerly making preparations for the Senior For- mal which was to be held that night. Robert Moffatt, our doorman, ushered the girls into the school while their escorts parked their cars. Then the couples en- tered the beautifully decorated auditorium which was softly lighted in colors of red and white. As the music of Don Paynels orchestra lilled the large room, Carole Johnson and Max Calland, as queen and king, circled the iceberg in the center of the floor which depicted the theme, Ice Palace. Too soon, the dance was over, and the couples wearily went home. 5 Raw 1: M. Calland, King, C. Johnson, Queen. Row 2: R. Jones, R. Milam, L. Gruber, M. Kuziak, D. Dornbush, J. Jenkins.
