PHUPHECY While studying the other day, I fell asleep and had a futurmatic dream. I saw the graduating class of '53 in 1973. The presidential inauguration of '73 was held in the capital city, Skullyville. Donald Haines, the new president, has just left for a cruise up North River with his cabinet. The government this year is distinguished by having an all-girl cabinet. A few of the members are: Rose Marie John-Secretary of State. We're afraid she'll be doing all the work. Jo Ann Sirdoreus-Secretary of the Army. we hear Harold has a little pull with the army now. Ida Pahmer-Secretary of Agriculture. Her friend Eileen Benge uses her con- nections as Secretary of Labor to keep Ida's farms going. Marilyn Songer-Postmaster General. I wonder if they will need a postman on this cruise. Arleta Frederick-Secretary of War. She has just perfected a theory to abolish war. Some of our classmates have entered politics abroad, too. For instance, Shirley Davis was called upon to be Queen of England on the grounds of previous experience. Carl Henry, Bill Hines, and Bob Kuhns are all her knights. Keep that armor shining, boys. Careful, we don't mean n-i-g-h-t life. So much for international affairs. Let's return to Madison County. There have been a few changes in Winterset the past 20 years. Larry Jackson owns Ford Motor and Bill Husted is the new owner of Mills Chevrolet. Seems they argued so long and hard about cars in high school that they convinced each other they were drive ing the wrong car. Myrna Brittain is new manager of Brittain's Standard Parts. Phyllis Porter and Dorothy Keating are her head clerks. In place of Nelson's Smart Apparel, we have George's Lady's Shop. It is owned by one of the class bachelors, George Schoonover. Let's go in and see how George is getting along. Those two customers over there look familiar. They're none other than Ruth Ann Mills and Sandra Beverlin. They are buying college clothes for their daughters. Here comes a model in a cute outfit. It's Betty Jones, another old classmate. She is followed by Marilyn Cline. Delores Silliman ru s the Super Dooper Fire Power long Mileage Gas Station. In the station one can buy groceries, clothes, novelties, bakery goods, and even drugs. The registered pharmacist, Barbara Henrichs, fills all the prescriptions. Then there's the toy department and Jewelry shop. But, of course, with all this she hasn't room for gas. Bill Beedle is coaching basketball and football at W.H.S. Carl Letz is prin- cipal and Ruby Gilleland is superintendent. Alice Haines is head nurse at the new ultra-modern 300 bed Peru Hospital. One of the head doctors at the hospital is Loren Myers, an old Peruvian. Mary Jo Koehn is teaching advanced physics in Skullyville High School. Since the capital was moved to Skullyville, the population has risen considerably. Tom King and Clair Bertholf have set up an atomic research plant in the Rippey Dumps. We are now on the scene of the first explosion. There it goes! Good heavens, they leveled the hills! Charlotte Williams and Beverly Weidman have a secretarial school in the capital. Gail Brown is their track instructor. The girls have to stay in shape to keep ahead of their future employees. Those desks aren't very big. Louise Vincent is now singing with the Stanzel Metropolitan Opera Co. This world renowned organization has some other members of our class in its midst. Bob Stephenson is the director of the orchestra, which consists of Martha Ann Harper, Bill Easter, and Eugene Patterson.

The Senior Class of nineteen hundred fifty-three, being of sound mind and body, bequeath the following: To the faculty we leave the proverbial Wcalm after the storm.N To the janitors we leave all our class notes to keep next year's students warm. Marcia Lillard leaves her ability of making a situation sound twice as good as it really is to Janice Vee Clark. Not that Janice Vee needs it, of course. Sandra Beverlin leaves her motto to all high school girls. Incidentally, her motto is, HTo each his own, so leave mine alone.H Bob Stephenson leaves his ability to confuse Mr. Waters in Social Problems to Lewie Haines. Don't get that turned a- round, Lewie. Betty Jones leaves her place in the hall with Ray Cameron, hoping no one takes it. Lois wilson leaves for Woodward. Don't get any ideas. Paul goes to a John Deere School up there. Bill Husted finally removes his little red and white, dual-piped Ford from the streets of Winterset. The police force will probably celebrate. Carl Letz leaves his long legs to Francia Leeper. It will help you in basketball, Francia. Jim Agnew leaves his broad, friendly smile to cheer up the students next year. Shirley Davis leaves the honor of reigning as 1952 Homecoming Queen to all the junior girls to hope for. Donald Haines was given the ability of staying awake in class after staying awake all night last year. Donald has decided that Ed Harrell is in dire need of it, so passes it on to him. John Hart leaves his girl friends to Joe Hamand. Chuck Greenwood leaves his faded levis to Max Day. You don't wear ties with them, Max. Shirley Allen leaves to catch a certain parachute. Lewie's a paratrooper. Joe Saxton and Harlow Finney leave their experiences at Creston Vocal Festivals to all singers interested Arleta Frederick leaves for California. Wonder why! Lester Berry is trying to leave, but can't find the door. Last year Ted Bek willed to Carl Henry his way with the girls. Carl decided he's had so much fun with it, he'll just keep it. Pat McNamara wills his flashy shirts and suspenders to Bernard Harpole. Alice Haines leaves a little of her knowledge to help out future students. Ruby Gille- land leaves her pleasant ways to anyone who can do justice to them. Arleta WShrimpH Simpson, if she doesn't get lost in the shuffle, is leaving her scattered brains to help out next year's bookkeeping class. Bob Schirm leaves his old-time nickname HHammerheadN to anyone who can have a ham er dropped on his head and not have it hurt. Earl Kordick leaves his physique to Larry Travis. John Clark wills his formula for getting through classes without preparation to all juniors. Just sit still and be real quiet. Tom NEinsteinN King wills his scientific genius to John Greenwood. with the driving ability willed to her last year, Jo Ann Sirdoreus leaves to join Harold. Rowena Murrell wills her artistic ability to Ed Morrissey. Ed Hartley, who is never late for class, requests that Cliff Johnson carry on the record. Janice Hudson wills her dainty voice and courteous manners to Barbara Thomsen. Barb Henrichs leaves her snappy brown eyes and hair to Bill HBlondieU Koehn. Marilyn Cline, our basketball lass, leaves her job at the Maid-Rite to Dorothy Clements. George Schoonover wills his bashful tactics to Gene Croft. Eileen Benge leaves her 2nd year algebra to the sophomores. Bill Hines leaves his ability to act like a monkey to Phil Mills. Please don't take it Phil. No one could deserve such a thing. Rich DeVault leaves his witty remarks for Mr. Jeneary to decipher. Last year some studious ability was willed to Duane Allison. Since Duane didn't use much of it, he would like to pass it on to Wayne Curnes. Bill Beedle leaves his enormous capacity for food to any five boys who can eat that much. Kenneth Conard and Floyd Bailey leave their quiet ways to Jim Frederick. It will take a lot to quiet Jim down. Rose John leaves her red hair to Ed Henry. What a blow! Larry Jackson leaves Dick full priority over the black Chevrolet. He didn't say anything about Janice Vee. Loren Myers and Uon Dillinger leave their table at the pool hall to Norma Wight and Lois Hart. Dee Silliman leaves her dim- ples to Charlie Dowler. Makes your smile more appealing, Charlie. Clair Bertnolf
