S. with the thought, 'Do or Die, and Rave Pun on the Way. The official motto was and still is 'When you come to the door of success, you will find it labeled PUSH. They pushed and pushed hard. They proved themselves able to hold up their end by going all out for basketball, football, track, music, Hi-!, Y-Teen, and dramatics, not to mention a little study now and then. They were a long way from being the seniors of '51 but they were trying hard. In the school year of 1.8-1.9 there were 80 sophaaores roaming the halls of H. H. S. and they really were somebody now. The seniors spoke to thu and the freshmen got out of their way. They did all right in the extra-curricular activities as the record shows. Twelve boys and twelve girls were out for basketball. Five girls won major letters and seven won minor letters in basketball. One boy won a major letter in basketball. Two boys won major and ten minor letters in football. Six boys were out for track. They were spread liberally through such music groups as band, glee club, mixed ehorua, sextet, trio, and mary others. Two sophomores were cheerleaders, two were Y-Teen officers, and two were H1-I officers. The school year of 1.9-50 arrived. They were Juniors and wore the nonohalsnt air of upper clasenen. They weren't snobs about it though, md they really proved their worth. Take sports for example. Eight boys won major andthree minor letters in football. Ten boys were out for basketball. Six junior girls went to Des Moines to help bring back the Iowa State Girl'e Basketball Tournament consolation trophy. Six other girls were out for basketball. One junior was a cheerleader. Thirteen juniors were band mlabers and several others were in the varlous other musical groups. The junior class play was The Brain Stem. Seventeen juniors had speaking parts. As the Junior year came to a screaming and spectacular end, the summer also was left behind in a dream of palm trees md balmy trade winds. Then out of the night came the thunder- ing bells of school and in a cloud of dust cones a hearty cry of Iii, ho, High Schoo1. The seniors of '51 ride again! They were everywhere doing everything. Sixteen were out for football, nine boys and five girls were out for basketball, four boys were on the Hi-I cabinet, seven girls on the I-Teen cabinet, five boys were on the F. F. A. cabinet, and one on F. H. A. cabinet. In the all-school play eight seniors had speaking parts. The football team was conference champ. The girls basketball team went triumphsntly back to state tournament. The seniors of '51 have proved themselves superior among the classes in the history of Uinterset High School, and wish to express their thanks to arqone who may have helped to put thu there, Sponsored by NRTHSIDE CAFE -3' ,-11 ' ' H -3 ,qt , . Wayne Breeding got a taste of being an efficiency expert in the all-school play of '51 and decided it was a pretty good racket. Last I heard, he was working for some big company and had saved than 8300 last month. His salary? Three hundred dollars. Now that Jim Breeding is a railroad magzate, we are getting two trains a day in Winterset He was slightly embarrassed one day when the second one met the first one coming back just outside of tom.
