JU IOR CLASS HI TORY In September 1940 an ambxtlou roup of freshmen entered W H S wlth an enrollment of 108 The representatlxe of thls class were outstandmg ln the var1 ous act1v1t1es IH wh1ch they part1c1pa+ed On the followmg September the class returned wlth 84 members There were 10 boys and mne glrls ln thelr respectlve glee clubs seven sophomores were 1n mlxed chorus and s1x played 1n the band Elght boys were out lor football and three partlclpated ln basketball E1ght glrls were on the basketball squad Floy Allen was the basketbll manaffer Edna Barrus was one of the W H S cheerleaders and Barbara M1lls was a cheerleader and band twlrler Margorle Adams was drum maJor ln the marching band Helen Huffman Pat McLaughl1n Barbara M1lls and Owen Johnson were ln the all hlgh school play Barbara M1lls and MarJor1e Adams were on the G R cabmet and Paul Anderson and Gllbert Goettsch were members of the H1 Y cablnet As upperclassmen now the group re entered on August 31 1942 w1th 96 mem bers In the elect1on of class offf1cers Paul Anderson was chosen to serve as pres1dent wlth Pat McLaughl1n as VICE presldent and Gllbert Goetts h secretary treasurer Fhere were n1ne JUUIOFS m the glee clubs nme ln mlxed chox Us and elght nl band Betty Osborn and Betty Wflbht were 1n sextette Barbara M1lls and Mar 1or1e Adams ln tr1o and Paul Anderson resumed the barltone posltlon as sole veteran of the quartet Katherme McNamara and Barbara M1lls were tw1rlers and MarJor1e Adams was drum majorette ln the marchlng band Estell Inez Nelson Dor1s Zmk W1lma F1eld Cleta Peterson Sue Cornell Pat McLaughl1n and Edna Barrus were members of the glrls squad the last three named belnff on the flrst team Three boys G1lbert Goettsch Darv1n Stover and Paul Anderson held posxtlon on the f1r t 10 The football boys were Darvm Stow er Marlon Krug Gllbert Goettsch and Paul Anderson Paul Anderson and Gllbert Goettsch were on the H1 Y Cab1net Sue Cornell P at McLaughl1n Edna Barr us MarJor1e Adams and Barbara 'Nhlls were on the G R Cabinet The Jumor cheerleaders were V1rg1n1a Goodman Edna Barrus and Barbara Mills Barbara M1lls and Helen Huffman were selected to serxe on the Assemb ly comm1ttee W1lma Ballev Paul Anderson Bob Mad1 on and Ph1l Mlles were members of the Journallsm cla s who publxsh the Cub and the Husky weekly newspapers The Junlor class presented a comedy by 'VIosl1er The Imagmary Inval1d The t1tle role was played by Owen Johnson The other roles were played by Lols Thayer Bettle Baker Paul Anderson Helen Huffman Betty Wrlght Gen W11son Katherine McNamara Cleta Peterson Barbara M1lls Forest Butler Glenn Waltz and Phllllp Mlles The lunlors 1n the all hlvh school play Young L1ncoln were Helen Huffman Forest Butler and Bettle Baker , ' ' 5. ,Q . . .
