On Armistice Day the Osceola High School Band. the American Legion Band of Winterset and the Winterset High School Band formed a large parade and also performed at the half of the game. The Concert Band played for the Rotary Club in Januaryg West High Des Moines. with Valley Band on March 7' the regular Band and Orchestra Concert in February and for the High School P. T. A. The band entered the Sub-District contest held at Guthrie Center on March 19 ranking superior, entered the District Contest at Oskaloosa April 9 ranked super- ior in Class A Concert Band there also. It participated in the State Music Fes- tival at Iowa City on May 7. The woodwind quintet went to the District contest. Myrtle Chamberlain received excellent in flute solo Caroline Wade received excel- lent rating in saxophone solo. Charles Neidt ranked superior in the Sub-District and excellent in the District Contests with his bassoon solo. The Band Festival was held at Indianola on April 22. Other bands in the fes- tival were Indianola Knoxville. and Pella. The Band Mothers' Club purchased three new uniforms and fifty new white leather Garrison belts. They also helped furnish the transportation to contests. The Band members sponsored a Tag Sale with a net return of 360. Also through the courtesy of the Firemens Organization they received S50. The .eniors who are leaxing the band this year are John Burch, Hubert Jones and Ralph Cline. There are about twelve or fifteen more students to enter the band this summer and fall.
