My start and my stripes are your dream and your labors. They are bright with cheer, brilliant with courage, firm with faith, because you have made them so out of your hearts. --Franklin K. According to the dictionary, a fore- word is an explanatory note at the beginning of a book. Therefore, we will attempt to fulfill this definition. A yearbook means different things to every individual. Some people think of a yearbook as a picture album, others, an autograph bookg still others, a reference book. Actually a yearbook is all three of these. Unfortunately, there are many students whom we might compare with Columbus when he discovered the New World. They start out not knowing where they are goingg upon a rriving , they still do not know for certain where they areg and upon looking back, they are not positive where they have been. A yearbook can be used to r em ed y this., It can be used to plan future endeavors, to tell what is happening at the present time, and to tell very definitely what has happened in the past. Your yearbook is a product of much worry, work, and argument-- and a great deal of fun, all combined. We hope that you will trea- sure it and the memories it preserves in your hearts and minds of the school year of 1961-1962. Thus, with great pride we present the 1961-1962 edition of the GLACIER. 5 In Dedication Miss Mary Stanfield We, the annual staff, in compiling all the material that must go into the year- book, have one problem that stands out among all the rest--that of the dedication. This must not be taken lightly for we feel that the receiver of this honor should be a deserving person who strives to improve the students and whose untiring efforts are directed toward making them better citizens. We feel that this dedication will show the admiration and respect not only of the annual staff, but also that of everyone who knows and works with this person. With sincere appreciation for the work she has done in the Winters school system, we respectfully dedicate the 1961-1962 GLACIER to Miss Mary Stanfield 7 In Memoriam Tommy Sims 8 31 A. L. MITCHELL MILTON JACKSON JAKE PRESLEY Vice-President LE ,1E J J School Board JOHN NORMAN President RAYMON LLOYD PETE MATHIS C. T. RIVES, M. D Secretary 9 Superintendent TO THE CLASS OF '62: It is my personal pleasure and privilege to congratulate this class upon the successful completion of another school year. The cooperation, the ambitions, the enthusiasm and responsibilities required for this successful completion of your public school life are attributes that will also be useful in adult life. In order to meet the challenge of life in your time, I hope you will continue to develop physically, mentally, socially, economically, morally and spirit- ually. This has'been the philosophy of the Winters Schools and I sincerely hope it will become yours individually and that you will make a positive contribution to our American way of life. Sincerely, 579155. 10 Principal A yearbook provides a permanent record of the activities and achievements of students during a school year, In future years your review of these experiences will provide for a richer appreciation and will refresh your memories ofthe joys and satisfactions you have had during the school year 1961-1962. May I congratulate you on being the choicest student body I have ever closely observed. Problems have been reduced to a minimum because of your extraordinary cooperation and superb attitude. It has been a privilege and pleasure to serve you as principal and to be a part of Winters High School. May I wish each of you success, happiness and pros- perity in your future endeavors. ll . W. The first thing that comes to our minds is how to change and improve this year's annual. Our foremost objective is to produce an an- nual that will be a satisfactory record of the school year. We are always grateful to Mr. Middleton. His guiding hand is certainly a great help in solving our problems. As we each contribute our part, the annual gradually emerges. Then there is the impatient waiting for the finished yearbooks to arrive. When they do, we are proud to present the 1961-1962 GLACIER. We graduating members have certainly had a wonderful experience in publishing GLACIERS for Winters High School. .
