' Ballinger Buries Winters, 58-to- Here Friday Nite Bal1inger's Bearcats smother- ed the underweight Winters Blizzards here Friday night by 58-0, to sack up the District 7-A title before a crowd estimated at 2,000 coat wrapped fans. The win was Ballinger's sev- enth, ,leaving Winters sole oc- cupants of the district cellar. A trio of backs made up the Bearcats' scoring game. Elongat- ed Daniel Hallmark personally made four touchdowns in the first, second and fourth quarters. The opening tally came on a 50 yard sprint by Hallmark and a 22 yard end around run by Jim- my Endacott, who scored stand- ing up. Back Jack Davenport faded back to pass, and then converted. Four minutes later, Davenport sprinted 32 yards for the Bear- cats' second tally. Devenport failed to convert and the score stood 13-0 as the first quarter ended. Early in the second a Winters offensive drive was halted on the mid-yard stripe and Back H. O. Abbott was forced to punt. Bal- 1inger's Hallmark grabbed the ball on the 10 and raced back to the goal and a score 90 yards away. An attempt for the extra point was nullified. An inexperienced Winters line continued to falter and before the end of the second quarter, the Bearcats strong armed their way back to add two more counts, both on long runs. Hallmark scored from the 22 and Tommy Buchanan completed the first half scoring fest with a 70 yard run through the Winters line. The half ended 32-0, Ballinger leading. Ballinger showed sparkling running form as the Bearcats racked up 498 yards with Hall- mark bearing the maj-ority of the gain. Winters, although thgr- oughly outclassed, made good use of a passing attack. Wiziters managed to hold the Bearcats in short moments of the third nquarter. Here Hallmark broke loose and scampered un- touched 33 yards for the tally. The next Bearcat scoring drive came after Winters fumbled on the Bearcats' 12 yard line. Here, only two plays were necessary to complete the march down the field. Back Ralph Spreen grab- bed a shuttle pass and dashed 70 yards to the goal.- Ballinger's final scores came in 'the fourth stanza. One was a set up on the Blizzards' 40 yard line where they elected to pass rather than punt on the fourth down. The' pass was long and the Bearcats took over. On the first play Roland Bell cut deep into the center of the field 'and ran 35 yards for a score. I It was Bell again who made Ballinger's final count when he plunged over from the five cli- maxing a 38 yard drive. The conversion was good and the game ended shortly afterwards. Richard Winchester, Harvey Maas and Joe Bancal turned in stellar defense for the Bearcats. The backfield was headed by Hallmark, Davenport and Enda- cott. For Winters, Tommy Hancock, Royce King and Bobby Dodd were standouts in the line on de- fense and offense. Cagey David Casey was Winters main back- field man, getting fine support from Zane Hensley and Susy Costello. Blizzards Go To Coleman For Conference Tilt The Winters Blizzards will not be at full strength tonight when they journey to Coleman to open district play against the Blue- cats. Six boys will not make the trip and will not play. James Little, regular left end, suffered a broken right leg in a scrimmage session Tuesday after- noon and will be sidelined for the' season. Little was a very good defensive man and had caught several passes this year. Lester Byrd, regular right end, had to quit the team because of a shoulder injury. Byrd's shoul- der kept jumping out of place and it was feared it might cause serious injury. Four boys will not play to- night because of law grades, they include Lloyd Hester, a re- serve fullbackg Buddy Hall, a re- serve tackleg Jimmy McNeill, an end or tackleg and Susy Costello, a regular halfback. The rest of the squad has been working hard this week getting ready for this first district game. Bobby Dodd and Rodney Waggoner, both guards, have been moved to the flanker posts. The local lads lost a hard fought battle to Eastland here last week by the score of 12-6. The game was marked by very hard blocking and tackling on both sides. The Blizzards scored on a long pass from H. O. Abbott to David Casey in the end zone. Oooooo! Little ball l love you. Qasftmw BIS with 'UW ORTON- oem me 131. 'IHROCKM fda wok -an 'Yi . h1.'l-3 .
