' dlstance and then sat down to rest I fell asleep but was rudely awakened by peculiar sounds commg from a crowd of nat1ves as they stook before me Thls dlscovery set me trembllng w1th fear They led me and my monkey away through the jungle to the1r camp where we were put m a small hut wxth only a tmy wmdow at the top The monkey promptly crawled up the wall and dlsappeared through the openmg leavmg me alone There was a terrmble racket outslde the hut that terrxfxed me Then I found that I was able to see what was gomg on through a small hole 1n the wall It seemed that my monkey had rounded up a group of h1s frxends and that they were causmg some cornmotmn around the village It must have frlghtened the tr1be because they gathered before thelr leader and made a lot of no1se and s11ly motlons At least a dozen natlves were guardmg the hut I was m What dxd my monkey do? Maybe he belonged to a member of the trzbe and they thought I was stealmg hlm Of course they could have taken Hours must have passed before the natxves stopped yelhng and racmg about Then a natxve gn-1 came ln and took my hand and led me out of the hut to the center of a large crowd I was so fr1ghtened I could nardly walk There surrounded by those strange looklng people stood Uncle Ben and I cr1ed as I ran over to h1m Suddenly It occurred to me that he mxght be a prmsoner also but he calmly reassured me as he put his arm around me and sa1d somethmg to the leader of the trlbe I dldn t know what he sald and I dldn t care but I soon found out that the worst was over So ends my tale of days of adventure ln the Afrlcan jungle But I must not forget to ment1on my pet monkey Mr Ch1ps He 1S now seated by my side and IS an 1mportant member of our household Pauhne Gray 51 10 him away from me.
