Student Advisory Sets Standards for Inter-Racial Relationships Student Advisory, under the supervision of Mr. Oximar Woodard, met bimonthly in the cafeteria to discuss racial and student-teacher relations. School improvements, in addition to problems involving discrimination, also made up portions for group debate. Five black and five white students from each class formed the thirty member organization which sponsored WHHS's Field Day and Intramural Track meet. Student Advisory operated under the leadership of: President-Lemuel Ceathers Jr., Vice President-Jim Tofanelli, Secretary-Lotti Ponder, Treasurer-Carole Putney, and Parlimentarian-Ann Reese. 1) Student Advisory officers: standing — Lotti Ponder, |im Toffanelli; kneeling — Lemuel Ceathers. 2) 77-78 Student Advisory members: 1st row- LaTonja McIntosh, Donna Wilson, Pam Robinson, Tammy Nixon, Sharon Denmark, 2nd row- George Geathers, Susan Yelton, Pam Hartwell, Mark Lauver, Derrick Woodard, Derrick Ellis, Lemuel Ceathers. 3rd row- Stacey Darnell, Olivia Smarte, Gwen Fairdoth, Jim Tofanelli, Sikondra Perkins, Karen Camped, Kaye Robinson, and Lotti Ponder. 28

Four Foreign Exchange Students Attend WF1F1S Four foreign exchange students lived and attended school in Winter Haven for the 77-78 year. Steve Brown from Rotorua, New Zealand stayed with Scott Owens for the year. The Rotary International Student Exchange program, sponsored by the Winter Haven Rotary Club, made Steve's visit possible. The program operates on a January to )anuary schedule. Paul Fetz and Cordan Candy, two American Field Service students, also lived in Winter Haven for a year. Paul Fetz from Bellinzona, Switzerland stayed with Kevin Hoover. Paul enjoys photography and attends a photography class at school. Cordan Candy, also with the American Field Service, spent the year with the Richard Madaus family and his brother , Rick. Gordan came from Christchurch, New Zealand. He was sponsored by the Winter Haven Kiwanas Club. Cordan, interested in soccer, joined a city league team and was elected captain, javier Villasana, an exchange student sponsored by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Missionaries Mexico, stayed in Winter Haven for three months. Javier came from San Louis Potosi, Mexico and lived with Dr. and Mrs. Alden Ryon. 1) Javier Villasana 2) Paul Fetz 3) Steve Brown 4) Cordan Candy.
