You Belong to Your School For many years you have belonged to your school. It prepared you for endeavors later in life. Extracurricular activities combined with mind expanding courses added depth to your knowledge and personality. 1977-78 marked the beginning for a journalism department at WHHS, which taught everything from simple news writing to offset printing of the paper. Type was set by the yearbook staff in addition to making camera-ready advertising copy with their vertical camera. A better since of belonging to WHHS occurred at thebeginningoftheyearwhen you started school together in 7:30, unlike the previous years' split starts. Seniors and juniors did, however, have the opportunity to leave after five classes. November ended the battle between PEA and the school board negotiator over contracts. The attention to his and other school news increased your sense of attachment to the school and community. You were there when Dan Trueblood and Karen Kingham reigned at Homecoming, and the notables were honored at the Disney World Prom in the Contemporary Hotel Ballroom. Your family and friends joined you with these experiences. Daily life found you laughing, playing, and resting with your companions. Education did not cease with your exit from institutionalized learning. For some of you it merely marked the beginning of your search for truth and understanding. Whatever your destiny, with or without your friends, the fight continues. Here again you must remember above all you belong to yourself.

During life as a producer, consumer and worker you belong to your community. As citizens of Winter Haven your image and action have a direct influence on the tourist economy, and you become its best advertisement. Your hospitality, willingness to work and eagerness to help make Winter Haven successful. Work can at times become recreation because of the moderate climate.
