Business Education Mrs. Cloyce Thornton, head of the secretarial department, teaches short- hand and secretarial training. This year for the first time she is sponsor of the Future Teachers of America. Miss Juanita Hilty is shown here helping one of her typing students. Even those not in the business field find typing a useful skill. Mr. Robert Stephenson teaches the business courses of Law, Training, and Salesmanship. He also finds time to help with sports activities and intramurals. Mrs. Sara Johnson is shown directing several of her students in bookkeeping. She guides them through the intricacies of debits and credits. This year Mrs. Johnson organized the Junior Executives Club. Math and Science Chemistry, Advanced Chem- istry, and Physics students re- ceive from Chester Mann's courses an excellent background in the advanced sciences of our age. Mr. Mann also finds time to sponsor the Key Club. Miss Evelyn Hughes teach- es Biology and Living science and sponsors a girls' service club, the Beacon Club. She is shown feeding one of the experimental animals used in her science classes. MR. ROBERT K. YOUNG Two new teachers in our science department are Mrs. Margaret Ford and Mr. Bill Hampton. For nine years Mrs. Ford has made her home in Florida, coming originally from Ohio. Teaching Biology and Chemistry, she believes that many concepts acquired in science can be applied to everyday life. Mr. Bill Hampton is working in the important field of science. In- troducing sophomore students to high school science, he teaches Biology. Students receive an excellent basic knowledge of Geometry under the guidance of Mr. Robert Young. Taking an active interest in the students' extracurricular activities, he helps with Junior concessions and sponsors the Hi-Y Club. Besides her usual program of Trigonometry, Solid Geometry, and Algebra II., Miss Phyllis Smith is also teaching Introductory Probability and Statistical Inference which her students call Ipsi. As sponsor of the Wha-Ha-Hta-See, Miss Smith devotes time to helping students with this publication. Mr. Theo Saliba teaches Algebra I., Business Math, and Functional Math. He was in charge of the intramural bowling team this year. Mr. john Davidson, who comes from Piedmont, North Carolina, teaches Business Math. Our Diversified Co-operative Training program successfully combines scholastic and practical training, thus enabling the inter- ested student to receive career experience as well as a high school education. Outstanding, both as instructors and coun- selors, Mr. Rodney Padgett and Mr. Maynard Traviss are in charge of this department. MR. RODNEY PADGETT MR. ROBERT JAMISON MR. MAYNARD TRAVISS N Industrial Arts In the field of industrial arts, Mr. Robert Jamison helps his students learn skills that will be very important to their work in later life. Courses under Mr. Jamison's supervision are Shop and Mechanical Drawing. Agriculture Working in the vital and rewarding field of agriculture, Mr. Warren Harrell is in charge of our school's excellent department. Learning by doing, his students have won nation-wide honors and awards in many areas of farming. l MR. WARREN HARRELL Physical Education Coach W. R. Ausley, better known as Brick, is the popular head of our athletic department and coach of our football team. This year he has taken on an additional job--teaching Biology. All girls, retracing their footsteps, will remember their physical education teacher, Miss Rebecca Waldrop. Work- ing not just for athletic skill among her girls, Miss Waldrop also helps them to be poised and attractive young ladies. Teaching boys' physical education and serving as assistant athletic director, Coach jim Whitney is a busy and familiar figure on campus. Besides coaching baseball, he is line coach for the football team. We are glad to welcome as a member of our faculty, Coach Larry Workman.
