Pamela Watts, Yvette Scott Live To Learn For 'l'omorrow's Success was the motto that inspired the Class of 1988. From our initial introduction to the campus of Winston-Salem State L'niversitv, we were made aware that learning was the key to our future success, As freshmen, it was our turn to experience the ups and downs of college life. We had to reckon with academic challenges which were different from what our high schools had presented. Nevertheless, we threw ourselves into the college scene with all of the youthful spirit we could muster. Some of us joined the university's marching band and the football team. Others became active with the Mr. Ram Pageant, the Coronation festivities, and other social events. Those of us who were intellectually inclined attended the cultural events and learned about things which we had only imagined. Class officers were elected to lead us and we were exposed to the intricacies of the political process through participation in the Student Government Association. Mrs. johnetta Huntley was selected to serve as our advisor and Dawn Hand took the helm as class president. Yvette Shoats and Robin Huntley were our SGA representatives. Sharin King was Miss Freshman. Class activities in that first year included attending Black College Day, acclimating ourselves to the social and academic environment, and celebrating becoming sophomores with a pizza party. We had arrived and had succeeded in being E 4 4-11-1- 'C V i accepted as a part of the Ram Family. As sophomores, we were prepared for bigger challenges. Under the guidance of our class president, Micheal Smith, we embarked on bold new paths. We began a tradition with our first Toga Party. We raised funds for the class treasury with a Dating Game Show and branched out by co-sponsoring a spring social with A8cT State University. Some of us excelled in academics, others in athletics. The high point of our second year was the inauguration of Cleon F. Thompson, jr. as chancellor of the university. A new day had dawned at Winston-Salem State University and we were part of it. We began ourjunior year by looking towards the future and taking steps to obtain that all important college degree. ln. .1 I I I si 149 Cl.1r11l lJi'1'11'1-iv illL'l'I't'llii' Hm1.1iil Mrs. l'l1xllis l 1 111 Vins lll'C5lfll'lll l'1'1Asi1l1'11l tilriss .Xclxi 'l'l1cCJ11rccr Scrxiccs Ullii 1' lxcpl 11s Wiiislmi-Sgilciii 5l Ill U us ZilJI'C2iSl nf' july lgiirs, rusuinc writing NYC lllilflt' il In ilu lop 1 l wrnksliops, umiiipuiiy lllIL'I'X'lt'WS.
