After being properly orientated, we began to take an active part in the activities on the campus. Our class was rep- resented well in athletics, drama, and music. Very quickly we became an integral part of the college family. The school year 1953-54 passed rapidly and soon we were thrilled with the thought that we had completed our first year in college! A brief summer vacation led us directly int o our second year. By this time we werefull-fledged T-C -ites! The sophomore year taught us, among other things, that college is serious business for this is when we really began to feel the weight of the academic phase of college lifeg but, fortunately, everyone emerged suc c e s sfully . Many of us joined the Greek forces by affiliating ou r s e lv e s with fraternities and sororities while others became leaders in other extra-curriculars. Ending the sophomore year assured us of the fact that we had reach- ed the half-way mark and reminded us that we had just as far to go, thus, we moved into our Junior. As Juniors, we continued to be well-represented in campus activi- ties. At Homecoming this year we had our fir st opportunity to enter a candidate in the Miss T-C Contest. We lost the race despite our tre- mendous efforts, but were consoled by the fact that we had still another year to enter a candidate. In the spring of our Junior year we entertain- ed the senior class elaborately with a memorable prom, and enjoying it as much as they. With the close of this year, we looked forward to the greatest of all college years: the senior year. Finally we reached the height of our college career! We were dig- nified seniors. Though we continued to be active in activities, all of us were busy, at one quarter or another, with practice teaching. This year proved to be our busiest, but e ac h of us was happy to be busy for the tasks we were undertaking were in preparation for our leav- ing: selecting class jewelry and invitations, publishing an annualg plan- ning for class plays, exercises for class day and night, and others too numerous to mention. Now that our college days are a part of the past, we rejoice in know- ing that these four years have been profitably spent at Teachers College and are proud that our Alma Mater has been instrumental in shaping our future. H 'Q it gift, , . V Senior Sclwol Of Nursing Dircctar 's ,Message Nursing as a profession has become a vital force in society in attempting to meet the health needs of man. Health and medical agencies are in a period of rapid expansion. Although more people are now engaged in nursing than in any of the other groups of health professions, the demand for additional professional n u r s e s far exceeds the supply. T he enlarging scope of nursing and the in- creasing c omplexity of the nurse's role have changed patterns of nursing serviceg thus, the basic pr epa r a t i o n of the nursing student has undergone some important changes. Collegiate education for nurses is one of the most notable changes which evolved to meet the challenge of our present health needs. In the collegiate pro- gramfor nurses the curriculum includes general education courses whichare selected to give the student the background she needs to understand herself and he r pa tient, to understand more fully the scientific facts underlying her work, and to work coope ratively with others in solving health and related problems. Nursing education in a college setting gives the nursing student an opportunity to atte nd classes with students of other programs andto share in all college activi- ties. The opportunities the student has for gain- ing insightinto human relationships are rich and varied. All these help to prepare the student for a profession which is rich in associations with people and in personal satisfaction which comes from serving others. x if 4:1 SdB 6-. , - 623 Jessie Herron 'ffh 5-4 x..J' Mary Scott 1957 School Of Nursing Sh 1yC1d 11 Barba ra Hope Edna Taylo f 53 I K gp: ' B ff an Das X 'li A- . The staff gratefully ac- knowledges the c1ass's confidenceand its wonde rful cooperation, both of which were requisites in undertaking and completing this job. Although each senior will see the results of the staff's endeavors, only those who actually applied hands and time to the taskare aware of the work involved. These are the persons who have worked assiduously arranging layouts, proofreading copy, pleading with printers to waive dea dline s , W e a r i ng typewriter ribbons thin , making financial ends meet, wearing out shoe soles in order to solicit ads, and coping with unforeseen, and some- times adverse, circumstances. Despite the energy expended in order to bring forth this year's RAM. the staff deems it a genuine pleasure to have served the class of 1957. Mr. Neut Adams Miss Eloise Adams Mr. John H.
