U Y LY 5-1 DAS LEBTWOHL In September '49 we came, To be enlightened or to remain the same, We came in search of that called EDUCATION , But ignorant of the issues involved in this proclamation. We came from the country, the town and the city Possessed with various intellects-from wise to witty, We came as nonetities to experience this new life, To the beat of the drum and the tune of the fife. We came to meet our amicable President, Who was honest and fair and said just what he meant, It was evident that he was possessed with a rare acumen, Because he was interested in where we were going and not where we'd been We came to meet our magnificent teaching staff, Desrined to give RIGID assignments and also a LAFF. We came to work, to study and to make the grade, Knowing in the end that the achievements would be well paid. We came to meet husband and wife, To break hearts and cause much strife, We came to be blithe and make lasting friends, Not to be talkative fellows or gossiping young hens. We came and learned to pay all bills on time, From 8104.00 to one thin dime, We came and paid for books that were lost, You see ANGEL and PRECIOUS paid at all cost. We came to pass, to float and to flunk, To FIGHT assignments or play games of tonk, We came to walk dormitory halls all night, Saying we were HEAVY, knowing we were LIGI-IT. We came to excel in football, basketball, baseball and track. To test our integrity and say, NEVER TURN BACK.' We came to contribute to orchestra, choir and band, Wanting to be a part of the best in the land. We came to be made most worthy Greeks, Knowing these transformations were not the peaks, But the things we considered as a must- To be truthful, kind, honest and just, We came not only to be physically tough, But to go to classes and STRUT OUR STUFF, We came to learn the courses so that we could TALK, TALK And never ever be DUBIOUS and depend upon a balk. We came to do things right, not SHlLLY SHALLYI' To attend to our own affairs and not to dilly dally, We came and learned to be very smart, For instance, knowing the daily menu by heart. We came to go on picnics, and occasionally a hike, To attend social parties, Greek dances, AND THE LIKE, We came to learn how to mix these affairs, To balance them with lessons and avoid the many snares. Today, May 26, 1953, we go, To disperse our knowledge and never take the answer NO, We go as young and vivacious and daring scientists, A Now dedicated to the world as educational philanthropists. WE CAME AND NOW WE GO. WILLIAM F. HENDERSON UFAREWELL TO ALL 29 , TALK,
