The theme of our book is Reflections We, the members of the annual staff, have tried our hardest to reflect upon all the aspects of the school year. Unfortunately, because of limited space, we may have had to leave out some activities that were just as important to some of you as the ones we put in. We hope that you understand that because of the rising prices and limited funds, exclusion of some events and pictures could not be helped. There were many highlights of this past year. Our varsity basketball girls were the HDC conference champions. Our stage band won two first place trophies in two different competitions. Our concert band received a 1 rating at the district music contest. Our junior high basketball girls were the Winston Jr. High Tournament winners. The J.C.'s provided the school with some new trophy cases. The following pages contain still more highlights of the school year. A yearbook's purpose is to preserve memories so that years later they may be looked back upon fondly. We hope we have fulfilled this purpose. i 3 vpgtAvy,tAQqv 1 'f - rr:L'1.'1.'.':'..' ! Y Ga Harold W. Flint - Superintendent of Schools and Math Dedication The annual staff wishes to dedicate this yearbook to the five gentlemen pictured on this page. Each has bettered the school in his own individual way. The students, parents, and community appreciate the many things these teachers and administrators have done for Winston High. All of these men, except Mr. Flint, will be leaving Winston and shall be going elsewhere at the end of the school year. Our thoughts will remain with every one of them long after they have retired from their careers as educators. We, the yearbook staff, hope that in this small way, we have shown the sincere appreciation eachperson associated with Winston High School feels for these fine leaders and educators. Phil Fish - Coach, P.E., and Drivers Ed. Jerry Batson - English, Psychology, and Counselor Dale Heldenbrand - History and Health Darrell Hawley - Elementary Princlpal Faculty and Administration f' , i Superintendent of Schools - Harold W. Flint 1. Even with all his headaches lVlr. Flint can still smile 2. Mr. Flint checking his files . 3. Mr. Flint and Annual staff editor and co-editor confer about the issues 1. The prime goal of the Winston School System is to l educate the individual student. We try to offer the best school program to encourage the youngster to achieve as much as his or her intellect will permit. The school program is very competitive in all areas including music, art, athletics and industrial arts. We feel that an excellent teacher is one who motivates the student to achieve to a higher degree than his normal intellectual ability predicts. We feel the Winston School provides a faculty which challenges the student to an effective degree of efficiency. We are sure the Winston School community is proud of its local educational system. 6 l. T-ff--1 . 'l?'d, fi. 1 ik 9 4-aff? 9 .54 ' ff V I 'A r' 1 4 N 4 x 1 1 .Q l s 7795 J xl-af? I ill 2.
