Winston San ntonio A year ago several San Antonio families had a dream of starting a school for the 12,000 plus bright students who had learning differences. Not only was San Antonio the largest city in the United States without such a place, the Yellow Pages listed a school in Utah as the nearest. 3. These families approached Paul Erwin, Headmaster, Lester Levy, President Emeritus of the Board of Directors, and Wilbur Smither, Present President, with the dream of starting a satellite Winston School in San Antonio. ..4v- 'g Elf S- :.- K ww Preparation for this addition to the family included a 3 day retreat in August funded by the Hearst Foundation. This event enabled all the administration and faculty members to experience Winston's unique, supportive approach to educating bright young people with learning differences. Mr. Erwin has recruited a top-notch faculty and carefully molded a new Winston beginning. Other Metro folks involved in the exchange have been Principals Barbara Blumenthal and Beverly LaNoue, Adminstrative assistant Ellen Davis, Development Director Mike Klickman, Counselor Barbara Burke, Diagnostician Stephanie jones, and Outdoor EdlDirector Ginnie Combs. At Present there are over 80 students and 17 facutly. Planning is underway for the hiring of a new Headmaster for Winston 5ChOOlfS8I'l Antonio for Fall 1986, when the enrollment is anticipated to be 100. it
