4 Campus Life Lower School After 11 years of growth, change and experimentation Lower School now serves 68 students supported by 12 full-time faculty. Each stu- dent has the opportunity to partici- pate in traditional areas of aca- demic study such as reading, math- ematics, social studies, language arts, literature, and science, as well as sports, physical education, art, drama, computer science, and camping, Lower School students supported their Middle School classmates in the Christmastime production of Snoopy . ln May, Middle School students will sup- port the Lower School in their pro- duction of Annie . Co-ed sports program was success- ful, too, ln Soccer, all of the Lower School teams were competitive in league and tournament play. Every- one is looking forward to the Soft- ball season in the spring. The Bas- ketball team won the sportsman- ship award as well as placing sec- ond in league and tournament play. Of course, all of the cores spent the year field tripping in and around the Dallas area. Thanks to the dedi- cated Lower School faculty we have had an exciting year, and look for- ward to many more. Winston San ntonio A year ago several San Antonio families had a dream of starting a school for the 12,000 plus bright students who had learning differences. Not only was San Antonio the largest city in the United States without such a place, the Yellow Pages listed a school in Utah as the nearest. 3. These families approached Paul Erwin, Headmaster, Lester Levy, President Emeritus of the Board of Directors, and Wilbur Smither, Present President, with the dream of starting a satellite Winston School in San Antonio. After raising start up expenses and enlisting 80 students, the school opened its doors at the jackson-Keller Elementary school in September, , VY 5 - 1 va F -. :1 fr: 5. ' --
