Undefeated Fourth Division Champions ..... WCHS Football leam Presented Trophy Al Annual Grid Banque! For many years to come the events of Tuesday night, Decem- ber 8 will rema'in in the memory of the 1953 Winston County High School football players and their coaches. On that night the climax to an undefeated and untied grid seas- on was reached with the presen- tation of The Birmingham News' Fourth Division Championship Tro- phy. This includes the 7th and 8th Districts, The players were champions. Coaches Oliver Woodard and Andy Davis were proud leaders of those champions. Undefeated and untied in 18 straight games, the players were unchallenged Class A leaders of this section of Alabama. A rousing sustained round of ap- plause shook the school lunchroom -walls when Jerry Bryan, assistant sports editor of The Birmingham News, presented the trophy and said he was proud to be at this victory banquet. It thrills me to be associated with champions, Mr. Bryan told the players. I bring you some- thing concrete ttrophyl to put in your trophy case, but always re- member: You are champions, and you have in your heart your re- wand. Sponsored by RED WAMSJEY 1 MAKES ALL STATE---Tom Jeff Henderson, Winston County High Schoo1's sensational touchdown maker, has been honored for his talents by being selected on the Birmingham News' all state class A team. He rushed the ball and received passes 106 times this season for an amazing total of 1422 yds. He scored 29 touchdowns and 13 points after for 187 points, playing only half time in at least five games. Tom scored more points during the 1953 football season than any other player in Alabama.
