DEDlC.AHQN To Miss Nelle Robinson our club sponsor for the past two years, We dedicate this edition of the Winsagja. Miss Robinson has been an excellent teacher and community citizen in Double Springs since coming to our school in l944. Her working hours, and many that should have been given to rest, have been spent in guiding the activities of her classes and in helping with a multitude of community projects. We, individually and as a club, sincerely appreciate the time and effort Miss Robinson has spent in our behalf. Her devotion to our welfare will be long remembered. 2 Hi STQRY QF VWNSTQN COUNTY HIGH SCHQQL The Winston County High School was organized September, 1908. As the building was not completed, classes were held in the auditorium of the Elementary School building until after Christmas. There were three teachers the first yearg Mr. C. D. Wade, Principal, Miss Martha Dubose, and Mr. W. C. Shotts, assistants. The first year only two grades were taught--Freshman and Sophomore. The first graduating classes were small: in 1911, there was one graduate: in l9l2,there were two:and in 1913, three. The school building burned in the fall of 1913, and school was taught in the Court House the remainder of that session. A new building, completed in the fall of l9lh, was used for several years, but when the schools consolidated the building wouldn't accommodate the students, and plans were made for a larger building. The present building was erected in 1930, and in 1935, was enlarged to house both Elementary and High schools. Some interesting facts not given above are: the school was organized under the 7-M plan, but now operated under the 6-3-3 plan. Number of students in 1908, about twenty. Number of students in l9h9, Ol. Number of graduates in l9ll,l. Number of graduates in 19.9, 19. Graduates of W. C. H. S. who are now teaching in the school are: Miss Nelle Robinson,'29, Mrs. Kate B. Hilton, '17, and Miss Ethel Curtis, '19, Mr. J. M. Ggitery, Jr., '38, Mr. Andy Davis, '29, Mrs. C. A.Christensen I Graduates teaching in the Elementary school are: Mrs. Opal Tidwell wilson, Mrs. Peral Adkins Lovett, Mrs. Mattie Hill Colburn, Mrs. Trin Hunter Chilcoat, Mrs. Kidd, and Mrs. Annie wilson Campbell, the Second Graduate of the schoo1,clas of 1912. 3 Editor-in-Chief. .
