At the University Interscholastic League contest at Jefferson, the sym- phony band placed first in concert and second in sight reading, said Mr, Solo- mon Banda, assistant band director. At the same contest, the concert band placed first in both divisions qualifying for a special award. The black band placed second in each of the categor- ies, he added. In additional activities, the band mem- bers played at a Spurs ' basketball game, said Mr. Tony Esquivel, head band direc- tor. ' Money was provided for the trips and other activities by the Band Boosters. The band members also helped by sell- ing fertilizer and raffling off a video recorder, added Mr. Esquivel.
