Gone forever will be the routine of school life, the fun we had, and the friends we made. It is the hope of the class of 1959 that, as you glance through the book in the years to come, you will re- capture those moments and the echoes will begin again. 3 DEDEDICATIO ....f-.- , - , - -. 9' EP. xc? ,, - . 55 f 9' 5' N- Wil 4 m.,fP3'u1:':,1A - Lzvigw, ., UC thn C :SS of 1959 do hcrnbx dulln lu thu wlumn of the PLFISLUIM t Chss IIIS lrnaltx and frlcndshnp h nn lddnd much to ilu hdppxmss of our 1115.11 school wars 4 Y . OW WNNSLOW GLEN CAK- ERENFK The year 1958 will long be remembered as the one that brought the state championship back to Winslow after an absence of 25 ears After being the underdog in a num er of games the season drew to a climax with the undefeated Raiders playing host to the mighty and also unde- feated Brewer Witches who were on their way to their third straight state title This game was symbolic of our teams ability to rise to meet the occasion and they did it in stunning style as Co-Captain Ted Huard ran the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown. The ends featured Newell Smith, one of the state's leading pass receivers, plus Co-Captain Nonnan Fortin and Glen Carter who were de- vastating blockers. Tacldes and guards were Ev McLean, Danny Nadeau, Reg ie Pelletier and Co- Captain Ronnie Poulliot. This foursome, along with Tex Bouchard, our center, accounted for many fine blocks, thus paving the way for our ball carriers. Guiding the destiny of the Raiders was Billy Horne, quarterback. At our halfback 40 slots with speed and running ability to burn were Ted Huard Danny Pelletier and Dave johnson. Our block-busting fullback Dynamite Dave Hill raised havoc with opposing lines Add to these footballers such defensive aces as Barry Dolley Bob Cryan Ev Shorey Terry Hughes and Dick Fitzherbert one can see that our championship team was no accident Honors won by this team include not only the state title but the Kennebec Valley Championship as well. Ev McLean, Newell Smith and Dave Iiill were named to the KVC all star team while Billy Home, Ted Huard and Ron Poulliot were named to the second team. In addition, Barry Dolley and Dan Nadeau received honorable mention. Final record: 7 wins, no losses, and l tie. 204 points scored for and 43 against. As a team we had confidence in our ability to score, but it was in our defensive unit we took greatest pride. Team spirit was the keynote throughout. I A 5 V.. ,,.ffr1Ai2, L, ' II' -AEC Pi s. To gain uniformity in the appearance of the letters and sweaters in the school area, the Club's plans include obtaining sweaters with woven-in letters of similar design. Though the club found it hard to find the time when all members could be present, the meetings it did have were well worth while, with the members obtaining much valuable information. As always, the Club's future interests include the sponsoring, stimulation, and promotion of the ways and means of supporting and improving the athletic program at YVinslow High School.
