The 1957 edition of the lVinslow Black Raiders started slow, gained mo- mentum, sputtered briefly, and finished strong. Aided by tremendous spirit and a desire to excel, the boys won the Ken- nebec Valley Championship and were runner-up for the state title. The all- senior backfield of VVitham, Cosgrove, Poulliot, and Lemieux led the Raiders' powerful offense, while seniors Math- eson, LaRochelle, McCaslin, jolin, Lam- bert and sparkplug LeBrun combined with the underclassmen to give lVinslow the best defensive record in Central Maine. ...Q ' - 4.4 H I Nil H. as .fa gt of N2355' ff., 14' .V f .t if 1. The fine coaching and guidance of Mr. McGee had paid off. Being the seventh-seeded team, we were slated to meet Brewer in the preliminaries. The boys showed spirit and drive, but lacked the necessary height to win over a taller Brewer team. The final score was 87-60. XVinslow skaters swept the skating which was held at South Fnd Arena. However, Good lVill dom- inated the skiing and Snowshoeing. These events, along with tohogganing, flying saucer races, and a baked bean dinner, were held at Good XVill. The Hin- slow-Fairfield Reanpot was permanently won hy lVin- slow. Good XYill won the TRI-School Carnival with 133 points. XVinslow was second with 124 points, and Fairfield trailed with 59 points. INDUSTRIAL TRAINING Robert Pelletier was grand prize winner in the sophomore division at the 1957 Maine In- dustrial Arts Fair. He received the Director's trophy, presented by Maurice Varney, state vocational education director. He also re- ceived a vibrator sander and polisher. In the senior division, Gerald Giroux won first place with a Hollywvood style bed. Har- old McCaslin won second place with a book cabinet. In the freshman division, Reginald Pelletier won first place with outdoor post lamps. Good Worlcmanship, Hal. The types of shop work given in our extensive industrial arts program are wood and metal work, electricity, and mechanical draw- 111 . g Winslow will participate in the 1958 State Fair. The senior division will be entered by Hal McCaslin with a kneehole desk, and by Mickey Poulliot with kitchen cabinets.
