Mrs. Weatherton is a secretary in the Winslow High School office. She is reponsible for keeping school records, keeping class lists up to date, checking honor roll eligibility among many other duties. Her smiling face and support of W'HS students was greatly appreciated. 3 Pilar Gonzales Pilar was chosen 1985-86 Meteor King for his contributions to WHS and to the class of 1986. Pilar participated in football all four years, wrestling four years, and baseball four years. He was president of Key Club and Wrestling Club, a member of W-Club and a homecoming royalty candidate his senior year. Janice and Pilar are royalty “1985-1986” i Janice Wilhoite Janice was chosen 1985-85 Meteor Queen for her many contributions to both her school and class. Janice played basketball all four years and a member of the all-conference team as a junior. She also participated in track. She was a member of Hoop Club, Girls' Ensemble, and a homecoming royalty candidate during her senior year. “CRICKET” 5 7 HOMECOMING 1985 This year s homecoming was lots of fun. Everyone enjoyed building class floats and getting ready for the assembly. This year s king and queen were announced as Tommy Butler and Sabrina Kislingbury. Solomon Duran, and Richard Smith. Our theme was “Energy” “Energy was the theme for this year's homecoming and energy was the right name for it. Everyone had a lot of energy participating in this year’s homecoming. Homecoming week was full of fun and energetic participation by the students of Winslow High School. 11 We had the X-Mas Spirit Pictured to the left are the 1985 Christmas Royalty candidates. We’re More Than Just Brains 15 WHS Student Council This picture consists of the hardworking yet wild student council members. Student council consists of the officers and representatives of the various clubs and organizations of Winslow High School. This year the student council did many things differently. They held the first Winter Sports Festival; they sponsored a child from Appalachia; and they initiated a program of honoring a teacher-of-the-month for each month of the school year. The 1985 6 student council achieved its purpose of promoting student participation and school spirit. She enjoys singing, dancing, playing the guitar, and riding motorcycles. She is involved in Outdoors Ski Club, Key Club, and Speech and Drama Club. Up the Down Staircase The 1986 all school play cast worked very hard preparing for their production of the Bel Kaufman play. Up the Down Staircase. The play, which was a slice of life in a big city school turned out to be a successful effort on the part of the drama department. The drama department’s second effort of the year was a joint one with the WHS music department and community theater for a production of the musical comedy, Li7 A bner. Speech and Drama The club was kept very busy by the sponsor, Mr. Hays as they traveled to many tournaments, performing well. For the first time in several years. Winslow hosted its own tournament. The club held fund-raising activities during the year to support the various activities. In all, the Speech and Drama Club had a busy, but fun filled year of hard work. We worked hard! Though they were unable to win any games, they did learn many lessons. They learned the importance of attitude in all areas of life, that there is fun in competition, and they learned self confidence. Even though 1985-86 was expected to be a rebuilding year, much hard work and dedication from all the team members made the divisional and state crowns possible. Team members Mike Garner and Tom Breeze became individual state champs and both were also titlists in the Champion of Champions tournament as well. The Dogs added another conference championship to their impressive total in recent years.
