Suffering losses only to the Snowflake Lobos and the Round Valley Elks, the Bulldogs fell one win short of a trip to the state football playoffs. In spite of this disappointment the Bulldogs had a fine 7-2 record for 1984 including an exciting 10-8 win over archrival AA Coconino in Bulldog stadium The telling loss in the A East conference was probably the Dogs first loss to Snowflake by a score of 14-10. Winslow had a number of chances to pull the game out including a controversial “muffed punt which the Bulldogs recovered in the Lobo endzone for an apparent touchdown. After numerous discussions, the officials reversed themselves a couple of times and the official ruling was that the play was a muff and not a fumble. This meant that the ball belonged to the Lobos on a touchback and did not give Winslow a touchdown that might have won the game. The Dogs will graduate some key seniors but will return a fine nucleus of underclassmen for the 1985 season. 122 Doyle Holt. The team ended the year with an excellent record of fifteen wins and only 5 losses. The Dogs captured 2nd place in the conference and a trip to the state tournament with a conference record of 11-2. Eleven Bulldog lettermen will return to the squad for the 1986 season. 145 Softball team has rough year, wins sportsmanship trophy The 1984-5 softball team consisted of (front row, left to right) Diana Breeze, Debra Lopez, Becky Hoke, Jeri Stucker, Jacque Gonzales, and LeeAnn Zohannie. In the middle row are Lori Montoya, Dayle Taylor, and Coach Johnson. The back row includes Coach Crumrine, Alberta George, Diane Walker, Jill Chase, Beverly Mayberry, Sylvia Tibbs, Elaine Padilla, and Denise Oliva. The high point of a very difficult season was the winning of the outstanding sportsmanship trophy awarded at the Flagstaff tournament. The season wasn't very successful because the team was relatively new and the new members had to be trained for a longer time. This may have been a setback but Mrs. McLaws is looking forward to next year because the team will have experience on its side. Clockwise from left page, upper right: the whole team smiles for the cameraman; Carol Tecklenburg gets ready for one of her serves; Shannon Kimberlin tries for a spike but it’s blocked; Carol with a spike; Natalie Grey helps over a bump; Shannon gets the ball over the net for another point.
