In the fall the band recieved a first place in the Eastern Arizona College Band Day in Thatcher. Arizona. The band was under the direction of Mr. Floren Thompson and Yvonne Faucher served as drum major. The twirler was LaWanna Fulton and the Meteorettes carried the flags. 9 Do You Remember? The cast was made up of 23 talented actors, actresses and singers. The musical was accompanied by the orchestra, directed by Jack Martin. John Boils was in charge of vocals. Members also attended the AASC State Convention at Mountain View High School in Mesa, De cember 7 and 8. The Council also sponsored the Christmas royalty and cans collected were distributed to the needy on Christmas. All year the Council showed teacher appre ciation by recognizing birthdays and special events. [ffMC 19 We roll our own . . . film Without the photography class pictured here, it would have been impossible to get the pictures for the yearbook and Bulldog Barks. 20 Charles fish back VV Lou Grant, come! here we Publishing the Bulldog Barks, the monthly school newspaper, was the sole responsibility of the journalism staff. The co-editors for the 1st se mester were Ron Merrit and Danny Guzman. Business manager was Zel-da Flemons. The staff was determined to better the score of 900 points earned by the previous year's staff in a Quill and Scroll evaluation. We’re very diversified! Ann Gonzales. 22 Taking care of business Officers of FBLA or Future Business Leaders of America participated in the Southwest Regional Conference in Phoenix. The group sponsored several fund raising projects and sponsored the Christmas dance held December 14. 23 Sylvia Ann Gonzales and Marty Freeman were choosen as An nual King and Queen for 1980 because they have been involved in clubs and activities that have kept up the image of Winslow High School. Also be cause they have been reliable workers for their class in their four years at WHS. Annual Queen King 24 Meteor Dedicatee The annual would like to dedicate the 1980 yearbook to Mr. Art Griffith who has been teaching at W H S. for 11 years and has been a coach all those years. He has coached varsity football for 8 years and JV football for 3 years. He has taught American History for 10 years but switched to American Government this year. 25 We the Meteor Staff would like to thank Mr. Griffith for making learning fun while still teaching the students what they should know. Members unlock secret at This year's Key Club members helped at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast in October. Two members attended Kiwanis meeting every Friday and the club held the Sweetheart Dance March 7. Key Club dele gates attended the S.W, Dis trict Convention in March. Indians and a 79 Thunderbird are what won the Tribe of Many Feathers first place in the annual Homecoming parade car contest. They also helped promote Pow Wows in the Winslow area. The seniors collected $214.86 worth of canned goods. The sophomores who won second place were Felix Guerrero and Donna Graybeal. The class collected $117.61. The juniors represented by Scott Koll and Dee Dee Wiliams took third place and collected $98.04. Eh?” was the winning play that beat out three other one act plays in which Rusty Davis was chosen best actor of the four and went on to take best actor in the Winslow hosted tournament with fourteen schools participating. Elaine Wyrick was chosen best actress of the four while Greg Kreie received honorable mention. 38 A short but happy story ... Eh? A short but happy story, was the way Rusty Davis described the winning one act play entitled Eh? which was directed by Greg Kreie. In addition to Rusty and Greg the cast was composed of Priscilla Flores, Jon Harris, and Elaine Wyrick. For Those Who Think The Yearbook Is Just A Scrapbook When the year is over and the last student has gone home, what have you got to show for it? This year's boys cross country took first place in the Holbrook dual meet, Mingus dual meet, 3-way meet at Flagstaff and Coconino dual meet. However, when the team competed in meets where there were seven or more teams, the Bulldogs did not come out on top, but did take second place in the Winslow Kiwanis Invitational and the Holbrook Invitational, and third in the Peaks Invitational. At the Divisionals the boys placed fourth and they took ninth at the State-meet. Runners who led the team were Alvin Kooyahoema, Loren Schultz and Reggie Franklin. Willie Powell was chosen Most Valuable Player and both Willie and Bobby Gonzalez were chosen to AII Tourna ment 1st team. This is also the third consecu tive year the Bulldogs have been the AA North Divisional Champs. Willie again was chosen as Most Valuable Player, and chosen for the 1st All Tournament team were Willie and Bobby. The Bulldogs ended the season with a confer ence record of 7 wins and 3 losses and an overall record of 21 wins and 5 losses. The Flagstaff Eagles ended the Bulldogs winning streak of 27 consecutive wins by a score of 71-61. Named to the All Conference first team were Anna Van and Ceta Begay. Patty Benham made the second team and Barbara Powell received honorable mention. The Bulldogs went on to state defeating Kingman 6033. only to go and suffer a 35 49 loss to Corona Del Sol. This win moved Corona into the finals where they lost to Corona Del Sol.
