ANNA SUE HYSONC Delightful, ingenuous, intelligent, blond, and pretty describes the 1968 Meteor dedicatee. With her initiation on the Winslow High School faculty, she has brought to the physical education department new and original aspects of health and physical education. In the two years that she has taught she has brought the spirit of W.H.S. to new heights. She has started the gymnastics team, the Mctcorcttcs, and has developed new ideas and routines for helping the cheerleaders promote school spirit. To you, Mrs. Hysong, we are grateful for the gifts of knowledge and inspiration you have bestowed on us. Your service to Winslow High School shall never be forgotten. 2 MR. The cast for You Can't The play opens as Alice falls in love with Tony. Alice is from a mixed up and poor family who are primarily interested in enjoying life. Tony is the vice-president of the company where Alice works. His family is very sophisticated, and the bringing together of the two families provides a hilarious background for the play. Alice plans a big dinner to bring the families together, Tony, unfortunately, gets the days mixed up the brings his parents a day early. The household is in a complete upset and totally unprepared for visitors. The complications that followed had everyone laughing. Just when all seemed lost, however, Grandpaw saved the day with a little common logic. Grandpaw convinced everyone to enjoy life now because, You Can't Take It With You! Emily repeats absurdities as if they were perfectly logical to her. The catastrophes that take place while sailing to Paris and when they get there are hilarious because of the serious way in which they are met by the girls. From the beginning to the end, the play is filled with the misadventures of the two girls. Bonjour ma'm'selle! I am the man who wakes up the late sleepers. Also, I clean windows! The Bulldogs dropped their opening game to Peoria, due to lack of experience. The team caught fire and won the next 6 games, taking Kingman, last year's conference champs, 27-6. Continuing their winning streak, the Bulldogs rolled over Holbrook, 45-12, and whitewashed Mingus on their own field, 47-0. Then, avenging last year's defeat by the Class A South Champs, Globe, the Bulldogs won with a resounding 41-7 victory. In their first game with their new conference opponents, Coconino, the Bulldogs piled up 5 TDs in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. The Bulldogs won their biggest game of the year by avenging last year's defeat by Cortez, Colo. The '68' version of the Frosh Wrestling squad continued in a tradition now firmly established by their coach, Stan Howe, Since Coach Howe took over the team three years ago, the Frosh have not lost a single meet. This year, the team began their winning streak with a victory over Holbrook, followed by a great match with West Hag. Wins included Snowflake and Mingus. Continuing in this manner, the team scored their second win over Holbrook, and followed with the defeat of East Flag. The team ended the season with a close and spectacular victory over the Snowflake JV's. This year's winning team was led by Ron Smith, who was elected team captain and is to date undefeated. Other big winners were Harry Begay, Goeffrey Brahmer, Tim Thomas, Bob Jaramillo, Carl Clark, and Phillip Lopez. Indeed, gas now supplies one-third of America's total energy requirements . Why? Simply because no other fuel is quite so fast and accurate and dependable as is natural gas. No other fuel is quite so EFFICIENT. That's why we can say, in all sincerity: If you want the job done right. . .do it with gas. Valuable time has been spent in every' aspect of yearbook technique and planning to provide something by which you could reminisce on the past year. Glancing through these pages, we are able to call to mind long-forgotten experiences or facts that will remain with us as a personal part of our lives. It has been our job to give you, in the most effective way possible, an account of the current activities in this school. Each and every person has contributed in some way to this production. Of course, as always, the main trend of the credit lies somewhere. What better place is there to lay the recognition than Mr. David Conatser, our annual advisor. His rare time was donated to helping us develop an attention-getting yearbook. Without him, we could not find the necessary paths to take. It has been an honor and a privilege to have his guidance. In our own way the staff says, Thank-you. The staff is composed of many different people with different jobs and titles. To assure us that the class flows smoothly and efficiently, each job must be performed accurately. Ray Wong, the assistant editor, saw to it that all loop-holes were filled. He has done his duty with an eye for perfection. The business manager, Diana Miller, has kept our financial status in order. Dan Oplinger, as sports editor, has designed a unique section in sports. Last of all, I can not forget our photographers, Ray Wong, Randy Soo Hoo, and Kenneth Custer. They have provided the class with suitable pictures to complete their work. The annual staff has worked together, but without you, the subjects, we would have no cause. I take this opportunity, in speaking for the staff, to thank the student body and faculty for playing the role in school that they have, and for giving us the chance to capture them as themselves. We hope that you enjoy the 1968 Meteor and that it will be of lasting value to you. 192 Ricky Smith Editor t L— it-.
