Text from Pages 1 - 200 of the 1964 volume:

FOREWORD Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime, And departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time. Longfellow Every step we take leaves a mark. For the Seniors, their marks are complete, and they can retrace their paths only by memories. As these steps were taken they were recorded in our minds and by cameras. When, at any time, they want to retrace their steps, this yearbook will enable them to do so. They will see their footprints as they were--running, skipping, shuffling, and strolling. They will see happy, victorious, sad, and lasting footprints. The Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen will see only part of their paths. The rest will be made by them. The footprints of every person are only in one direction. Our friends help us determine which direction our paths will go. We are grateful for the privilege of such guidance. To show our gratitude, we must help others take their steps and give them high ideals, so that they may retrace their steps in happiness and without regret. WE DEDICATE TO MR. HERMAN MACARTHUR . . .because he is dedicated to W.H.S. in all he does. Due to his dedication to our wrestling team, the team won first place in the state this year. .. .because he knows almost every student by name, and never fails to call their names to say hello , no matter how busy he may be. . . .because he has a winning smile and personality, which never fails to brighten the day. . . .because he gives his best in all he does, for his students, fellow teachers, school, and his community. 2 THE 1964 METEOR FACULTY THE SECRET OF SUCCESSFUL TEACHING IS TO TEACH ACCURATELY, THOROUGHLY, AND EARNESTLY; THIS WILL IMPART INTEREST TO INSTRUCTIONS, AND AWAKEN ATTENTION TO THEM. Arizona EDITOR'S PAGE I hope you like your annual this year. The staff has gone out of their way to make it the best they possibly could. I would like to thank Gloria Alarid and Lorenzo Guerrero for spending many extra hours, after school, helping Mr. Conatser and myself. Barbara Jones, a 1963 W.H.S. Graduate, also deserves a special thanks for her contribution. Barbara drew all of the original division pages and collected the quotes for them. This year has been most rewarding for me. After three years on the Meteor staff I learned to appreciate the real value of the yearbook. Hundreds of hours are spent taking, developing, and printing pictures. An equal amount of time is spent laying out the pictures, so that the annual will have originality. Maureen McKim Meteor Editor 1963-64 % If •' H
