Published Annually by THE PUBLICATIONS DEPARTMENT Winslow High School WINSLOW, ARIZONA HARRIET WHETLY, Editor DEDICATION TO ONE WHO IS A CHRISTIAN GENTLEMAN AN INSPIRING TEACHER TO ONE WHO IS UNDERSTANDING PATIENT DEDICATED TO HIGHER LIVING RELIABLE TO ONE WHO HAS A KEEN WIT A KIND HEART AN OPEN MIND TO YOU, AS A SYMBOL OF OUR TRIBUTE, WE DEDICATE THE 1959 METEOR Mr. Lester A. Taylor Everyone has favorites—a favorite sport, club, organization, person, or day to remember. Having favorites seems to make life more interesting and challenging. The editors of the 1959 Meteor took this into consideration when they chose the theme. Every part of school life this year has its own favorite. The fun and work of a year in our life of reaching toward adulthood were combined to make it a time of fulfillment and success ... a year that can only be relived in these pages. Our goal is to make the experiences of this year so vivid that for years to come you will recall them with nostalgia. Just as you have favorites, so does the Meteor. We have looked over the entire WHS family and selected a favorite from each phase of student activity. We hope that you agree with our selections. And just as this book is a favorite of ours, we hope it will become a favorite of yours. zl 6 MR. R. E. BOOTH, Superintendent B.S., Kansas State Teachers College M.A., University of Arizona MR. Throughout the season these four boys dominated A” North opponents in the 880-relay race. They are from left to right Cranston Hysong. Burton Belton, Ronnie Pelton, and Edward Pollard. The Bulldog Track Squad was the second team to bring home a Class A” North championship. The varsity football team won top conference honors too. The Thinclads also placed third in state competition at Tucson. Ed Pollard and Ronnie Pelton were chosen cocaptains of the squad. The track squad will certainly miss the services of these two hurdlers—Don Halsey and Ken Clark, both are seniors. In the weight division this year were Senior Tim Faucher, and Junior Eddie Ornelas. In the mile and half mile event this year were Peter Mitchell, John Aguilar, Jack Monroe, Joe Nelson Totsoni. Donald Stromberg, and Gerry Robb. 167 These cindcrmen accounted for most of the points in the dashes. Left to right are Jim Freeby, John Pllard. Albert Chavez, Ronnie Blackburn, Gary Gibson, Edward Pllard, and Burton Belton. These thindads aided the Bulldogs in the broad jump, high jump and pole vault. It has been our aim to cover every phase of school life this year. Of course, there were times when we goofed. As the trusted historians of W.H.S. for the past year, we hope you will enjoy our labors. Whether you like it or not only the staff and Mr. Martin can really appreciate the huge amount of work required to publish a yearbook. Mr. Harry Summers of Winslow Photo Supply has been our most faithful friend in need. Without his help in letting us take over” his shop and use his equipment, this book could never be a success. When our spirits were lowest his shining personality helped to carry us over the dumps. The seniors can be especially proud for he donated a composite picture to each of the graduates. The original will be hung in the main hall by the class of 59. Special thanks to Section Editors Christy Queen and Charity Davis for giving us some of their vacation time to help complete the remaining pages of the Book. These two sophomores were a real asset to the staff. It was a great joy to have produced the first summer delivery book. If you like a complete book, maybe this won’t be the last. On this last page we say a million thanks” to everyone who helped in any measure to make this book possible. As is life, we shall never again live this year; but by picking up your 1959 Meteor you may recall some happy days spent in getting educated’ at Winslow High School. Good luck and happy memories.
