I 'Dedication WE, THE CLASS of '55, do dedicate this, our annual, to Mr. James Curtis who has served the youth of Winslow by his participation and cooperation in the sports of Winslow High School. Since his return from the service to his former job in the Wilson School building, he has once again taken his well-earned place in our affections. Many of us have been taught by him or have been under his guidance on the school teams. He shall always have a special place in our memories. MR. WITH FOND and yet sad farewells we, the senior class of 1955, step through WHS doors for the last time and go forth to meet the challenges of our future lives. We have spent four wonderful and fruitful years within these walls learning through studying, listening to the teachers, and practical application. But now we are on the threshold of life and we realize how much we owe to our school and we think of the memories of these years we will always have. As Freshmen, green and even a bit timid we entered in 1951 but with our work of building the W, the class assembly and our first dance, the time passed quickly. The next year we were Sophomores and more sure of ourselves. We took an active party in the rumpus, and again participated in our class assembly. As Juniors we put on our play Seventeenth Summer, our class assembly, and our prom. Outstanding this year was receiving our class rings. Now as Seniors, we have had our fun with Ditch Day, Kid Day, the Senior-Faculty Picnic, the Hop, our play — Mother Is A Freshman, and our assembly. Yes, we have many wonderful memories to fake with us and we will never forget WHS. CLASS OFFICERS: (Left to right) Wiljon Woo, Council Representative; Hazel Murray. COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE ....... CHEERLEADER .................. RICHARD CUNNINGHAM ........JUDY CASNER ... ELLA MAE PARSONS .. LINDY CHIARMONTE ........ MARY MILLER ....... NANCY BAILEY AS THE CLASS of 59 leaves Junior High to become high and mighty freshmen, we look back on past events such as assemblies, PE, school dances, and being able to participate in the Bulldog Rumpus. We would like to thank Mr. Gardner who has assisted us in all of our Junior High activities. Among these was the Junior High School Gold Medal Tournament in which we took first place. Gary Phillips and Mary Miller had the honor of being selected Junior High Annual King and Queen. Margie McPhetridge had the honor of being selected the first Miss March of Dimes candidate for the Junior High. Now we leave all these activities to the class of 60 and hope that they have as much fun participating in them as we did. 122 - % fcade FIRST ROW; (Left to right) — R. Hill. L. Mase. L. Booth. J. No. 536 - 159 - SpJbqusL PRODUCING YOUR 1955 METEOR has involved an enormous amount of work, some worry, and loads of fun! Each page was planned for your benefit and enjoyment, and never a dull moment has accompanied each section of this book. Getting out this annual is no picnic. If we print jokes people say we are silly. If we don't they say we are too serious. If we clip things from other annuals We are too lazy to write them ourselves If we don't we are stuck on our own stuff. If we stick close to the job all day. We ought to be out hunting up news. If we go out and try to hustle, We ought to be on the job in the office. If we don't print contributions, We don't appreciate true genius; And if we do print them, the annual is filled with junk. If we make a change in the other fellow's write-up, we are too critical; If we don't we are asleep. The 1955 Meteor Staff wishes to express its sincere appreciation to those who made this production possible; including those who have given more than their share: Wilson Woo for his excellent photography. Dick Prock for his outstanding advertising staff for without their many untiring hours of work collecting ads, it would be impossible to publish an annual. Robert Ozment who is always on hand to draw everything imaginable, and his helper Paul Brehm. The members of the staff for putting up with me and their long hours of work. Barbara Strode who always worked on every task. The Winslow High School office force who always gave a helping hand. Mr. Patterson, our efficient sponsor. Mr. Summer, our Meteor photographer, without whose patient and co-operative help we could never have finished our task. I wish to thank the members of my class for granting me the privilege of being editor. I hope your book has attained your expectations and that you feel no disappointment in your '55 Meteor.
