Although we have had a hard time passing some of mu tests, there were the happy times that overshadowed the trying ones. Our Senior-Faculty Picnic, Senior-Sophomore Dance, Senior Hop and all the activities of graduation leave us with many fond memories. As we don our caps and gowns, although we arc-very happy on this occasion, we arc also a little sad to have to leave Winslow High School and all the wonderful times we have had during the years it has Sponsors been our Alma Mater. 'c could push the freshmen around this year; that really lifted our ego. Before the morning was over, though, we had hern deflated; it seemed there were two classes above us. , V'O. Things progressed with rapid speed. Some of the girls in our class were initiated on Rat Day and thereafter took an active part in l‘cp Squad Activities. W'c had a few honored bovs in the W Club too. In Novem-l er. we put on our school assembly which proved to lie a raving success. We were very pleased when the audience laughed at our jokes. We worried along with the other classes over our semi-final tests in January but we lived through it and our first few months of being Sophomores had a happv ending for most of us! The second .Semester went a little slower than the first one but it was none the less successful. We took part in the bulldog Rumpus and helped the Seniors put on the Senior-Sophomore Dance. They both turned out to l)C wonderful events and we were glad we had hel| cd. Although some of ns wondered alxnit it. the end of the year finally came. We were all inclined to be exceptional students, hut nevertheless we burned the midnight oil” before the final tests. In November came Homecoming with its many festivities, in which we participated by entering a float in the parade. Our freshmen basketball team brought home the honors from the Holbrook basketball tournament in December. The male element of our class became bold and courageous at the school dances, thanks to Santa Claus, who brought them professional dancing lessons during P.E. classes. Our freshman assembly was presented during February, and was followed by a very successful showing of the freshman basketball team at the K Squad tournaments. 1 Despite spring fever and other complications of the heart, we completed our eventful year as freshmen. COACHES Cl'R I IS AND NASSER Head Coach Emil Nasser and his assistant, Jim Curtis, as mentors of the 1950 football squad, completed four seasons as a coaching team at Winslow High School. I hey have an outstanding record of twenty-six wins with five losses in the four years. Of the losses, two were conference games and two were the mighty Albuquerque Bulldogs. This pair is to be highly congratulated lor the credible showing of the 1950 squad and for their fine record after four years together. They have always used a modified I -formation offense and have shown a fine working system. A very important part of the makeup of a football squad is the boys who assist the players with equipment, training, injury treatment, etc. The squad was lucky to have three hardworking managers to do these jobs; they were Frede Castleberry, senior; Curry Woo, junior; and Paul Bashor, sophomore. l-muj o« in I to right: C. Among these were 12 returning lettermcn who formed the nucleus ol the 1930 squad. The team was lucky to have the best equipment of any team in the history of W.H.S. It was also the first football team to use the dressing rooms in the new gym. After helping round the team into shape, Coaches “Doc” Wright and Jim Lovett took over the B Squad, while Jim Curtis did special work with the varsity line and Coach Nasser drilled the backs and ends and organized the team. The next week an easy 13-0 victory over the Cathedral Panthers of Gallup, New Mexico, boosted the morale ol the team. Bill Hannah, Bill Church, and John Paul led the attack. The highly improved team then went on to maul the Round Valley Elks 38-13 in the first conference game ol the season. Inner Willy , Willoughbys inner self, influences him to rise up against the future plans which his aunts have in store for him. He finds himself faced with the j roblem of no date for the graduation ball, but this is not the limit of his troubles. Later he gets not one, but three dates. The way in which Willy manages to untangle himself from these trying circumstances provides a hilarious climax for this entertaining comedy. CAST Willoughby Adams Inner Willy ......... The change was made because of the demand for a more pictorial annual, which can be obtained at a minimum cost by the new method. On the staff were twenty-four students, ranging from Junior High to .Seniors. Working during study periods after school, and at night, the editors and their assistants laid out the pages and mounted the many pictures. Another new feature of the 1951 Meteor includes the pictorial advertising ection. Merchants buying ads of one fourth, one half, and full pages were entitled to pictures of their firms for publication in the yearbook. The staff chose candidates for Meteor King and Queen; this was the first year a King was nominated; the final selection was made by popular vote of the student body. Miss Lovice Kingsbury supervised all phases of the annual work. The 1951 Meteor Staff wishes to express its appreciation to all who made possible this production.
